Hacienda La Cienega

Historic Hacienda in a beautiful garden in Lasso.

On your arrival, you will pass into an alley with large trees on each side.

The Hacienda is well decorated and you can visit the many rooms with old furniture.

In the back, there is a courtyard with a nice chapel.

There are flowers everywhere.

We were in a group and had a very good lunch with good and fast service.

We were entertained with a group that performed music from the Andes.

Very nice place to visit and have lunch.

Room Tip: We just had lunch and visited the Hacienda

We visited La Ciénaga during a family trip to Latacunga. My father was visiting Ecuador for the first time and we decided to spend a night at this place. The overall picture is positive. I encourage you to visit la Ciénaga. However, there are some not-that-minor-details that travellers should be aware of...

Pros.
- Staff' attention and service
- The overall environment and installations
- The scenery, the fireplace, the pictures...
- Not that pricey

Cons.
- Restaurant's chairs (very uncomfortable)
- No WIFI in their rooms
- Our room (#12) has an old mattress and rock-style pillows

Room Tip: Ask for a new mattress (if possible)

I think the landscaper took the season off.... This Hacienda is 431 years old and it is actually quite amazing that we had the opportunity to stay here. Yes, a little more rustic than what I am used to, but take in the experience. This is a piece of history that needs some love and appreciation. The staff were fantastic, proud of their space, very polite and really appreciated our broken Spanish (or at least pretended to). The food was really good, huge portions, reasonable prices. We were even entertained by musicians that came to perform for us at dinner. The main house as lots of cozy corners to enjoy the fire places, a drink and company with new friends. The grounds, although a little sleepy were like taking a peak in time. Our room was huge, near the chapel, a little stark but again, embrace the experience.

Room Tip: wifi in the main house, don't be alarmed by the really rough road you need to travel to get ther...

Old Spanish hacienda where the Colonial Spanish master lorded it over his poor peasants in the nearby village - and the photo's of his descendants and their families still adorn the walls of this creaking old mansion. The grounds are beautiful, the building is impressive, massive and stuffed full of old pictures and furniture. Our room was large with a real fire (maid came to light it at dusk) and a big en suite. This time of year it gets quite chilly on an evening so try the hot toddy they make with naranjilla juice, rum and other magic ingredients to warm you up.
All the staff are really friendly and welcoming and the food was pretty good by Ecuadorian standards.
Hotel was quite empty but we went off season. 20 - 30 minute drive to Cotopaxi.

The Hacienda is 300 years old and there are interesting artifacts throughout the hotel. The views of the area are magnificent. There is a nice chapel located in the hotel as well as a small store selling local artisan pieces. The staff were warm and friendly and the dinner in the restaurant was very nice. Would recommend to travellers who want a unique experience.

Hire some horses and take a guide it was a really wonderful way to see the surrounding countryside. The accommodation is very traditional and cosy atmosphere in the evenings. Food was very good and the staff pleasant and welcoming. Fortunate to find during our research pre trip.

Immediately one is impressed as you enter this place, driving through a gate down a long drive lined with eucalyptus trees to a wonderful old, historic hacienda. The grounds were beautiful with lovely gardens and a view of the Cotopaxi volcano in the background. The hacienda is filled with antiques and charm. Our room was very large with a sitting area, a wood burning fireplace and views of the gardens. Old wooden floors and antiques added to the ambience. Our fire was lit by the staff, as much to keep us warm as there is no heating. We had a lovely dinner in the dining room. There was a chapel in the courtyard at the back and many birds to watch. What a beautiful place to stay! It was booked as part of a small group tour that we were on in Ecuador.
