Beef is not always available at restos in Japan. Those that do serve beef declare it on the exterior of the resto and usually in English. We were ready for a beef sukiyaki experience. There is no better way to celebrate the delicacy of premium (heavily marbled) beef than to have a lunch set here at 8100Y for two.
We fortunately had reservations which are a must. There is a formality to this resto as we were lead to a private tatami room -- with a leg well TG.
The food was up to expectations with plenty of thinly sliced beef and lots of onions and bamboo. We drank matcha while other drinks were optional.
We HAD to come all the way to Asahikawa to enjoy authentic sukiyaki in the best way possible. Come here before this experience will not be available.

We are a group of 9 and had our own tatami room (beware some adults might find it difficult to sit on tatami for a period of time).

The beef was amazing - it was fresh and sweet and honestly the best beef I ever had. The pan-fried codfish (Shirubātara) was fantastic too.

We spent about 6,000 yen per head and everyone was full.

Note: we thought the ventilation could improve as the room gets stuffy once the pots start boiling.

In term of price and taste, this is the best sukiyaki and steak in Japan. We stay in Tokyo & Sapporo and we definitively don't mind to travel from Tokyo or Sapporo to Asahikawa just to try their sukiyaki & steak again.
Their staffs speak little English but they are very friendly, attentive & helpful.
In winter, don't forget to go to Asahikawa Zoo as they let the penguins out of their gate and walk on the street.

To be honest I've tried a few sukiyaki but this one I'm abit bias because of the freshness of the beef and the sukiyaki set that I've ordered. Also this is in Japan and the experience is such that we have our own tatami room with a Japanese waitress in traditional kimono serving and preparing the food for us.

It's not cheap but the food and experience is worth the while. The restaurant is really traditional so if you are looking for such experience this is worth a visit. We orders the sukiyaki set. Comes with everything and fuss free.
