“Lovely apartment, lovely countryside, lovely villages, just lovely”
Reviewed September 7, 2014 for a stay in June 2014

We have stayed at this property three times now and have always enjoyed every minute. St Laurent du Verdon is a small village surrounded by beautiful fields of lavender - a stunning sight in June/July when the lavender is ready for harvesting. There is a small cafe/bistro in the village, about 100m from the Chateau gates. The food there, while not exactly cordon bleu, is well prepared, reasonably priced and nicely served in a friendly and accommodating atmosphere.
The 17th century chateau was sympathetically modernised and converted to apartments in about the 1980s. The owner's site photographs say it all. There is an outdoor swimming pool (unheated), tennis court, petanque arena, all set in beautifully kept gardens and lawns.
The apartment (No 16) is on the second floor and is therefore not suitable for the disabled (no lifts). The apartment is on two levels (again, not suitable for the disabled): lounge, kitchen and one twin bedroom on the first level; bathroom and two bedrooms on the second level (one twin bed and one double bed. The lounge is good sized, light and airy. No TV reception but the small TV works well as a CD player - and there are dozens of CDs there. The apartment is well equipped, clean and seems to have been carefully looked after.
Nearby is the stunning Gorge du Verdun (white water rafting a specialty) and the Lac de St Croix (electric boats for hire for the more sedate) and all around are picturesque Provencal villages - every one worth a visit, especially on market days. In Quinson (3 Km) there is the fascinating Museum of Prehistory. There is horse riding nearby and dozens of pleasant country walks and bike rides. If you are into dining out there are scores (if not hundreds) of good restaurants in the surrounding area.
Nearest villages with grocers and restaurants are Quinson and Artinosc, both about 3 km away.. Nearest large supermarket is at Riez (an old Roman town which is worth a day’s visit itself) about 14 km away.
General Verdict: If you are looking for a hot time in the old town tonight - this is probably not for you. If you are looking for a tranquil, peaceful, lazy holiday in High Provence - you probably can't do better

“Beautiful apartment in a stunning setting.”
Reviewed August 24, 2014 for a stay in August 2014

We've been renting Gaynor's apartment every summer for several years now, and it never disappoints. A really beautiful apartment with plenty of room to move about (2 floors and 3 bedrooms). The apartment is well equipped and tastefully decorated, and the view from the window is absolutely stunning - there is a shared use pool and tennis court in the chateau grounds, both of which are fairly quiet since despite the chateau having 24 apartments, it's rare that more than about 6 or 7 are occupied at any one time, even in high season. The general area is highly recommended too. Pottering around Provencal markets, eating in some lovely (yet inexpensive) local restaurants, and taking in the sights. For the more active there's also plenty of walking routes to take through the countryside, and you can hire pedalos, canoes and electric boats on nearby lakes. Would highly recommend this apartment for a holiday.

“Perfect relaxing stay in picture postcard Provencal setting”
Reviewed August 17, 2014 for a stay in June 2014

Stayed for a week in mid-June. My fourth stay at the property over period of around 10 years and never disappoints. I absolutely love this place for recharging the batteries while enjoying some French food and picture perfect Provencal countryside. Most of the apartments at the chateau seem to have long term owners and regular visitors, so it's nice to see familiar faces every time. Saint Laurent is a small village in a very quiet location but within short drive of several charming Provencal towns like Quinson and Riez, always nice for an afternoon coffee or trip to the market. There is a very nice small restaurant in the village only 2 minutes walk from the chateau gates. Spectacular views when you drive over to the Gorge and Lac St Croix, which is about 15 minutes away. The grounds of the chateau have a tennis court, swimming pool, and boules pitch, which are quiet and available most of the time. The apartment itself is very homely and comfortable with a lovely view from the window in the dining area. Do bear in mind it's on two floors and the upstairs is accessed via a tight staircase, so perhaps not suitable for people with limited mobility or very small children (although i suppose they could use the downstairs bedroom).
