We called Lisheen Castle home for a week, and a very special week it was! My husband’s family and my family all met at Lisheen Castle bringing together people from both sides of the coast in Canada and the USA as well as three generations. We came together to enjoy the beauty of Ireland and learn more of our heritage and Lisheen Castle was the perfect spot to do so from. The words that first come to mind when many of us relive our trip are “magical”. Zane, the owner met us upon arrival telling us of the history of Lisheen as he walked us through the spectacular castle. Zane is warm and so receptive throughout your stay to make sure you are enjoying Lisheen and the surrounding area to the fullest. His staff, especially his cook Ursula, are a joy. Ursula made us wonderful traditional Irish breakfasts as well as cooked formal dinners in the dining room. Zane and his staff are quick to help in any way needed and can share an Irish tale or two upon doing so. During our stay our group ventured out in various directions for day trips but we also enjoyed the castle and grounds a large extent as we had a two and four year old with us. We had a wonderful dinner party dubbed “the Royal Ball” by our youngest princesses in residence and enjoyed many an afternoon and evening lounging in the farm kitchen and library with a roaring fire. From fancy to simple comforts, all your needs are met. You can get lost in the castle delighting in the character all around you or go out and explore as the beauty is endless. Thank you Zane and your wonderful staff for an unforgettable and yes, magical, holiday that will never be forgotten! We can't wait to do it again!
We just spent a week at the beautifully restored Lisheen Castle in Trulles, County Tipperary in Ireland. Nine ladies enjoyed the lovely rooms, each with it's own bath and comfy beds. Owner Zane literally gave us the keys to the castle. We had it all to ourselves for a week. He also was very helpful with all history and sites to see and shopping. We had a very wonderful tour company headed by Mary Glasheen of Glasheen Tours. Each day we headed out to venture to beautiful locations such as the Rock of Cashel, Kinsale, Dingle and Slea Head (my favorite). Kilkenny, and Blarney. Our drivers, Sean, John, Demucus, and Tom were very knowledgable and full of Irish humor and storytelling. We returned to Lisheen Castle each night for an excellent dinner cooked by Annmarie and her family. We ate out a few times, but were most happy with our home cooked meals at the castle for breakfast, prepared by Ursula . I highly recommend a stay at Lisheen Castle for family or group vacations. I miss the magic, the music, the beauty and people of Ireland already! Can't wait to return
Just spent an entire week in Lisheen Castle with a wonderful group of women. We each had our own bedrooms. The rooms were spacious, bright and the beds were very comfortable. We took advantage of the chef services for breakfast and dinner most nights. The food was spectacular and the family setting was such a nice environment for us to start and end our days. Lots of options to choose from and all the staff were great fun!
We were able to see wonderful sights as Zane connected us with Mary of Glasheen Coaches for personalized tours for our small group. The tours, setting, and service was fantastic.
We will definitely be back and highly recommend this special place for your family and friends.
We were a party of 15 - 12 adults, 2 teens and one 3-yr old. From the moment Zane, the owner, greeted us at the door and said “Welcome....come in and make yourself at home”, we knew this was going to be a great week! The castle is huge with lots of rooms to gather in. We never felt crowded and could always find a quiet place if we wanted some time by ourselves. The nine bedrooms all have en-suite baths except for the School Room, which has a sink and shares a bath with another bedroom.
We spent most of our time in the Library, Breakfast Room and Kitchen, but did occasionally use the TV room and front Parlor. We cooked breakfast and dinner each day and ate out for lunch as we toured the area. After a long day of sightseeing, we gathered in the Library to relax and enjoy a glass of wine before dinner. Zane stopped by a few times to join us for refreshments and tell stories. We loved hearing about his life growing up next door to the castle! Thank you, Zane, for the visits and for taking us up to the roof! Both were very enjoyable!
The castle is beautifully decorated and the kitchen is equipped with everything necessary to feed a small army! There was enough coffee, kitchen cleaning containers, soap, toilet paper and paper towels to get us started in case we didn’t get to town to buy supplies. Just one of the many “extra” touches provided!
One week at the castle really wasn’t long enough, but it was a good start! If you ever visit the Thurles area, this is the place to stay with family or friends. Who knows....one day we might be lucky enough to return!
Everything about the castle was spectacular. The pictures don't do it justice - it's absolutely astounding. Zane was incredibly helpful - I would highly recommend this to anyone who wants to experience real luxury in the heart of Ireland.

Lisheen Castle was a wonderful home base for our group of 14! The castle is gorgeous but it's also in a great location that provides easy access to many attractions. With nine bedrooms and large living and dining spaces our group of 14 was comfortable and had enough space to spread out so we weren't on top of each other. We were schedule to transfer to Dublin the day Hurricane Ophelia hit but due to the roads being closed were unable to do so. Zane called us as soon as he heard the news and offered us to stay an additional night at no charge. Wow! That's amazing customer service! He also came by to check on us once the danger had passed. I highly recommend Lisheen Castle for your Irish adventure!
Lisheen Castle is not a destination to be missed! Zane was extremely prompt in answering any questions we had before the stay and during. The castle was spotless and the 14 of us were quite comfortable the entire week. It was a wonderful home base to come back to everyday as we toured all of Ireland. Don’t hesitate in staying here!
