Located in popayan down town. Nice place to stay. Good restaurant. Very good hotel
The only problem was that when I was there they were painting the walls. I was not informed before my arrival. Lot of smell

I had recently stayed in a similar hotel in the Vatican,I have to say this hotel in the beautiful city of Popayan, had nothing to envy the mystical, impressive architecture of this Franciscan Monastery, beautifully renovated, conserving the tradition and giving the guest extraordinary views of the city, and the gardens inside the hotel, friendly staff, and good food. Highly recommend this place.

There are a lot of things to like about this hotel. The building is charming, the location central and the staff very correct (if somewhat inept), but what absolutely kills it is the fact that they hold weddings and corporate events on a very regular basis (three events in 6 days during our stay). That's OK up to a point, but when you are then subjected as we were to a band playing at very high sound levels until 2AM, followed by drunken, noisy guests hanging around until all hours, it's impossible to like a place.
True we did receive an apology about 2 hours in advance of the event and true we did receive (after much complaining and an email to elusive management) a laughably small discount on one night's stay, but I could not recommend this place to anyone. To be honest, I think the events are their main source of income and the management just don't care about the complaints. The breakfast is pretty poor too, hot water very variable and the restaurant service slow and dozy. The fitness centre comprises three old machines.

Room tip: All will be subject to noise if there's an event - no getting away from it

Dann Monasterio is conveniently located three blocks away from the main square of the city, in a busy street by daytime.
Most of the rooms are accessed from the two storey cloister of an ancient colonial convent.
There is no lift and you should be prepared to carry your luggage yourself along corridors and upstairs.
Although there seems to be different types of rooms, the one I had was quite satisfactory. Clean, spacious and cozy with somewhat dated furniture, a TV with no non-Spanish channels (no list provided), a rather noisy refrigerator. (Someone had set it to a minimal temperature and water was dripping from the ice compartment... The first thing I had to do was to clean the mess to be able to store medicine that required refrigeration.)
No drinkable water is provided for free. Bring your own from outside to save a lot of money... All amenities and services (e.g. laundry) are excruciatingly expensive under Columbian standards. I’m not sure it’s the best strategy to maximize income.
The room was reasonably quiet (some bearable noise from the street during daytime, none at night).
Breakfast was decent although an hotel of that category should be able to offer much better, including espresso coffee.
There is a pool (not tested) and a car park. WiFi seems to be good both in the bedrooms and the restaurant.
Service is not bad, nor good. Very impersonal. Staff will ignore you unless you talk to them. Reception staff was hardly polite.
In a nutshell, this is close to being an excellent hotel. It only lacks proper management with a minimum sense of service, as illustrated by the many small details that need attention.

The hotel is an old monastery but very well maintained building. Very well located (just a couple blocks from the city center).
All the staff is very friendly.
They have a restaurant with a good variety.
Rooms are spacious and some of them with a big balcony.
Breakfast is included.
