The South Indian food here is certainly comparable with the vegetarian restaurants we ate in in Singapore. Everything is delicious. The only compromise for western taste is that the food is not overwhelming spicy. Go here for the food, rather than as a pleasant place for a leisurely lunch. This is very much cafeteria style: You order your dishes and pay. Then you pick up the food when your name is announced. The restaurant is connected with a large In dian supermarket.

While reading reviews of Vik’s Chaat Corner, we lured to visit the place. First of all it is difficult to find the place on given address as there’re no signs, no hoarding.
The place is big and it has large sitting arrangement besides a space for grocery shopping.

The restaurant was packed and had long queue for placing order. There were many chaats, South Indian dishes, non vegetarian dishes, variety of Indian sweets, etc.

We had ordered two chaats, chhole Puri, and Paun Bhaji. But we are quite disappointed with the taste. Both chaats were ordinary and didn’t deserve good reviews on other site like Yelp. Paun Bhakti and Chhole were also ordinary in taste.

Great Chaat! Portions are not small, but you're also not going to leave bloated. Lunch specials come with about 4 sides, plus naan. The flavors are authentic and with just the right amount of spice. If you're hankering for some Indian in the middle of the day, this is where to go. And pick up some frozen samosa's in the market on your way out.

I went here with high expectations after reading all of the positive Yelp reviews and reading articles about this place online. But this place ended up being one of the most disappointing food experiences ever.

As soon as you walk in, the layout is a bit confusing, because there's no visible signs as far as where you should order and pay. I ended up having to wait for other people to order before I figured out the process.
After ordering, you pick out a table and wait for them to call your name, at which point you walk up to collect your order.

I ended up ordering the Tandoori Chicken Weekday Lunch Special ($12+). In addition to the chicken it consisted of Basmati Rice, Chappati, Dal, Raita, Papad, and Achar. At first it sounds like you might actually get your money's worth considering that's a wide range of food you're getting. But guess what? It's not. You only get a little of everything. The portion of the Tandoori Chicken was very small.

The only thing that tasted decent was the chicken, but they didn't serve very much of that everything else was very bland with no flavor.

This place is so not worth the high prices for the quality of food they are serving up. I deeply regret falling for the hype of this place.

In the early days when there were just a few tables and an open kitchen in the grocery store (yes, I was there), the word was getting out to Berkeley's Indian community that the best food with the taste of home was to be found at Vik's. As word spread throughout the East Bay and beyond Vik's expanded three times to accommodate the demand for their mouthwateringly delicious food. Every time I order it's like a case of having to choose a favorite child!! I want to order ALL of the chaat! It's so scrumptious I recommend going with a group and sharing family style to maximize your tastebuds' pleasures. :-)
