“Gorgeous beach and oh so comfy villa but be prepared for wind”

We were some of the first guests in one of the villas. For a couple of days there were guests at the main house, so we shared the pool and beach which has pluses and minuses - you have company and good conversation but you have less privacy and have to share chairs and be careful of noise levels on both sides. After they left, we had this amazing stretch of beach utterly to ourselves. Very nice deck with chairs and umbrellas. Very comfortable villas which are really well equipped. Blissful solitude. Long walks on spectacularly empty and beautiful beach. However, before you rent you should be aware that this is a fairly remote location. You definitely need a car to get to the store for supplies and to go out to restaurants and such. It is a good distance to the hub of activity - again a plus and minus. Also, it is VERY windy on this beach, which is why this is a great windsurfing spot. We are not windsurfers so some of that great wind was lost on us. We had some trouble, when we grilled and ate outside on the lovely deck, keeping our food from blowing off our plates (particularly lettuce leaves). Also, when we ate inside there was only the counter to eat at. No dining table. I think we were meant to eat outside or perhaps other people don't cook at home as much as we do. So many nice spots for relaxing - beach deck, villa deck, pool deck, hammock by the pool - AHHH!

“Great villa, beautiful location”

We just spent 8 nights in Villa Caracol, one of the two 2BR villas at Windhaven. My wife and I slept in one bedroom, and our 18-month-old slept in the other bedroom. We had a fantastic time. The villa had everything we needed to cook our own meals. Graceway Gourmet is about a 6-minute drive, depending on how fast you drive on the bumpy unpaved roads. Terri stocked the place with food and alcohol of our choosing before we got there. It was a terrific luxury being able to pour our own cocktails right after we got there.

The living room is flanked by the two bedrooms, each of which has a private bathroom and its own outdoor shower. No tub. The outdoor showers are nicely done, and quite fun. They offer complete privacy except maybe for your ankles...
The living room has huge sliding doors that open up the whole room to fresh air (and wind). There's a patio just outside the living room, with comfortable outdoor furniture. There's a sparkling clean Weber Spirit gas grill off to the side.

It's 20 or so steps to the beach deck. You can chill here under the umbrella, or walk another 20 or so steps to the water. Waves are about 6-9 inches tall, and the water is crystal clear. There's zero undertow, and it stays shallow as far out as you care to go. It's pretty weird, actually. You can walk so far out that you hear nothing but the water around you. Were it not for the fact that your feet were firmly on the ocean floor, you'd think you were out at sea.

If you want to sit on the beach proper, you have to provide your own umbrella. We bought a couple of cheap ones, but it seems like Windhaven should have expected that someone would want to sit on the beach with the protection of an umbrella. There are rocks and sometimes conch shells in the sand, so you have to watch each step between the beach deck and the water. Actually, you have to watch your step along the path from the villa to the beach deck, too, as the stepping stones aren't evenly placed. And this would be my main suggestion--make beach access effortless.

There's also trash on the beach to the immediate left and right of windhaven. Plastic bottles and other junk. It isn't windhaven property, but it reflects badly on windhaven. Just send a guy down the beach with a trash bag or something.

We didn't come for the kiteboarding, although I took a couple of lessons and had a lot of fun. If I hadn't been with my family I probably would have spent hours a day doing it.

Obviously the wind is regarded as a benefit here. It was windy for our entire stay. It was never annoying, but we were constantly aware of it. It was a bit stronger than what I would call a pleasant breeze.

One other minor annoyance was the electricity surcharge. It is unfair and poorly thought out, and at Windhaven's price point it's absurd to be charged a few dollars a day to cool the bedrooms below 80F at night.

But overall the villa itself, the view, the water, and the weather were all great. We look forward to returning as soon as we can.

“Perfect Villa, Stunning Beach”

Though we aren't kite boarders, we had just a wonderful stay at Wind Haven last month. We were late making our reservations but Terri couldn't have been more accommodating and welcoming. Wind Haven is brand new and the villas are sparkling (we stayed at Caracol), but the grounds and landscaping somehow manage to look quite established. The beach is almost deserted except for the horseback riders along the shoreline. Wind Haven is a 5-10 minute drive from a great market so we made good use of the grill on the patio. Terri couldn't have been more helpful as we made our way around the island with useful advice regarding our plans for meals out, snorkeling, scuba-diving and a visit to North Caicos for shelling. And hats off to Edrice, the very capable on-site jack-of-all trades who helped in a variety of ways.

“Absolutely Awesome - Best place for kiteboarders & non-kiteboarders alike!”
Reviewed 23 March 2013 for a stay in March 2013

Perfect place to stay for kitesurfers travelling with non-kitesurfers. Stunning place consisting of two identical 2-beroom villas and one 4/5 bedroom house. We rented one of the villas and every day was a lovely experience to open the large glass patio doors, sit on the outdoor couch and enjoy the view of Long Bay, which is in my top 5 favourite beaches of all time. The villa is stunning. Brand new (completed just a few months ago in November), it is fully furnished, airy and well-decorated with a modern beach house feel. It takes about 20-30 steps from the patio to end up on the beach which has very soft sand and is very quiet and private (you may see 15 people walking on the beach in the course of a day). Windhaven has 2 self-launch posts set up so you can launch and land your kites unassisted (in case your spouse is too busy enjoying amazing long walks on the beach or just soaking in the view, which is breathtaking). In case you haven’t used one before, Mike and Terri of KitePovo are super nice and helped me understand how to use it. There is also an air compressor right on the beach; I inflated my 15M in less than a minute. It beats being bent over a pump and frankly, the experience has left me a little spoiled as the thought of hand pumping a kite again in the future is significantly less awesome. Windhaven also has a nice pool nestled between the three units, and what I consider to be the best beach-side sunbathing decks on Long Bay, as they let you enjoy the beach view but lift you up off of it, giving you some detachment from the 15 people that might pass in a day. Winds are generally side-onshore or onshore. I found this place, and Long Bay in general, to be the perfect place to propose to my girlfriend. This place satisfied everything a kiteboarder would want, and also satisfied everything my non-kiteboarding fiancé wanted. I have no doubt you will find this the best beach, and best place on the best beach, to enjoy your vacations. A final note on Terri and Mike (saving the best for last). They are awesome. It doesn’t feel like you are renting a place so much as visiting long-time friends. Thank you for your genuine warm hospitality and we look forward to seeing you again soon.

Gorgeous ocean views from every part of the villa. Everything brand new, modern and super clean. My husband had a fit over the kite amenities such as the board rack and kite storage box just outside the room and air compressor right at the beach. As a non-kiter, I was never bored - enjoyed the numerous lounging areas throughout the property, and although the tourist guides don't mention it, there was great snorkeling at Long Bay Beach. Highly recommend taking an SUP tour with Mike, we saw sea turtles, rock iguana, manta ray, sharks, starfish. Super friendly hosts Terri and Mike went out of their way to make sure we had everything we needed. Can't say enough good things about Windhaven, we have been to numerous other islands in the Caribbean and have found no place that even comes close - thank you!!!
