Just got back from The French bulldog, what a gem. We came here in search of location for my wedding dinner party, we were looking for delicious food, a good bar and an intimate yet relaxed atmosphere. We had a Wonderful experience. We arrived during happy hour which had great variety, martinis ($8), plenty of craft and European beer on tap ($5), nice selections of house wine ($5) sangria, well drinks etc. and appetizers galore stretching from wings to lobster macaroni&cheese all at great prices.

We then moved to a lovely booth for dinner. We ordered a good bit off the menu as I said we were tasting for a wedding. Started with the Roasted Baby beet salad and Le Bulldog salad, they were so unique, you can't get these salads in your typical restuaraunt, delicious. We then ordered the gumbo; mind you were from Louisiana, this gumbos kick of southern spice is a bullseye. The Beef bourguignon was hearty and delicious, the braised short rib had a tangy bite paired perfectly with rosemary and mashed potatoes, the spinach ricotta lasagna was delicious but in my opinion the best dish was the Lobster risotto, fantastic. All of the dishes has unique flavors that we concluded we could not get elsewhere in the area. We finished with the beignets which were again the best we have had in California, complimented with a delicate cream.

The staff here were great, friendly helpful and attentive. Gael is the chef and even came out to say hello, really cool laid back guy with a passion for his restaurant and food. The decor in the place is modern posh, kind if grunge chic, loved every bit of our evening and cannot believe this place isn't rated within at least the top 3, but then again it is still being discovered.

Awesome place, great prices, unique to the area, delicious food and terrific atmosphere, we found a new favorite restaurant/happy hour in camarillo!

We enjoyed the special wine and dinner pairing at the French Bulldog for Valentine's Day. What a delightful discovery of good food and an attentive waiting staff. It was nice to not be rushed so we could enjoy our dinner and conversation. On a return trip back to the restaurant, we had the same waiter and the service and food was excellent. The French Bulldog reminded me of some of the bistros in Paris and bars in Germany.

We were looking for a place to have a relaxing Sunday brunch with a Bloody Mary or mimosa. Not as easy as it sounds. Sunday buffet brunches are becoming rare and more pricey. Most breakfast places are manic, noisy, crowded and rushed. We settled on The French Bulldog. Liked the JJ Brewskys that was there before until it started its downhill spiral. The space is not over crowded or overly noisy and if anything has been slightly improved.

I have to say my initial impression is that $27. For an omelet or eggs Benedict is pricey. The unlimited drinks does not make the price unjustified or unreasonable though.

We started out with a basket of beignets which did have a bit of a greasy taste.

I had an omelet with a side of red potato wedges and my wife had eggs Benedict with the potatoes as well. Both of our dishes were very good. No complaints but no wow either.

We did have 3 drinks each so the price was reasonable. The bloody Mary's were pretty bland and served with a small piece of bacon. No vegetable garnish. Had to request pepper, hot sauce and horseradish to doctor some taste to them. The mimosas were not distinguished with fresh squeezed juice or anything.

Still looking for a Ventura County Sunday brunch spot. Would give the French Bulldog another shot for lunch or dinner.

Stopped at the French Bulldog for a week day lunch. Cristy was a great server. The kids meals were the best value, and the adults made sure none of the generous serving went to waste. The veggie panini at$11 is an expensive lunch sandwich, but one of the best I have had.

Great ambience, wonderful dog decorations, unusual and tasty cocktails, good food. Closing hours can vary so make sure they are still open if you tend to eat late like we do.
