My husband and I spent 4 days at the Sea Otter Inn. The location can't be beat. It is right across from the ocean and you can enjoy the sunset from this inn. We found the simple breakfast of boiled eggs, pastries, cereal, bagels and muffins to be filling enough to start the day. Coffee, tea and hot chocolate were also available.
The desk personnel were helpful and the check in and check out process were both handled very quickly. Our room was spotless and the beds were comfy. Since we went in December during the week, the rates were very reasonable. We love the Sea Otter for the location, friendliness of the staff, and the clean, comfortable rooms.

This hotel is located on Moonstone Beach, which has some nice restaurants of its own, and is also a short drive to some very fine restaurants in Cambria. It is right across from a rocky beach where you can watch elephant seals frolic. A short walk down a boardwalk brings you to a sandy dog-friendly beach.

The rooms are fresh and pleasantly furnished, with reasonably firm beds. Cable television is supplied with access to many channels. The products in the bathroom, something I usually just take for granted, are quite nice--definitely a cut above motel.

The continental breakfast is decent -- again, a cut above a motel. Lots of small pastry choices (the pastries were just okay, though), plus some excellent granola, hardboiled eggs, various cereal choices (and packaged oatmeal), a fruit selection, juice, NUMI teas .... I thought the granola was particularly yummy.

We love the Sea Otter Inn. It is a small property right on the beach (low-traffic road between property and ocean). The property is absolutely beautifully landscaped; there were many flowers even in winter. We highly recommend a room with a private patio - we have reservations to go again, so that we can enjoy this feature - when we went before, there was one of the area's worst storms in history, so sitting at the quaint table outside on the flagstone patio surrounded by greenery just wasn't an option. The rooms are beautiful - rather feminine, but very tasteful and luxurious, especially for the price! The rooms all have fireplaces, which is nice, and the beds are really comfortable. There is a pool and a jacuzzi, but since the weather was so bad, we didn't get to use them. I can't imagine how spectacular this property would look in the springtime when the immaculate landscaping is at its peak! For breakfast, there were some very fresh pastries from a local bakery, I'm sure. Parking is near rooms - gardens between parking lot and single row of single-story rooms is the difference between boutique hotel and motor lodge. Right across the quiet street is the ocean - and a lovely, meandering board walkway along the shore - just perfect for easy strolling. The artsy-craftsy town of Cambria is fun to poke around in, Hearst Castle really is a must-see (worth the cost), and a short drive north reveals amazing elephant seals calving and breeding right next to the road (in winter months). I'm not about to reveal the excellent deal that I got on this room, because I don't want to have to fight the crowds to stay here, but at less than $100, it's an incredible bargain. We had dinner at another property owned by the same group; Cambria Pines Lodge. You'd never think that this tiny dining room in an old lodge would be worth mentioning, but I must say, it's quite good. The service was impeccable, wine list comprehensive, the food was excellent - right down to dessert. Like I said, we're already scheduled to go back...

This is the only place we stay in Cabria. Got a terrific deal on Travel Zoo. We spent 2
nights in a king patio room. Everything was perfect. Becky is very helpful and gives
great ideas on what to do in the area. It is right across from the beach and has a great
jaquizzi and pool. Highly recommend the dinner package with dinner at Cambria Pines
Lodge. Yummy food, great service.

We spent a night at the Sea Otter Inn in Cambria as a stop-off between Monterey and Los Angeles. This was one of our shorter drives (in length, not in time taken!) so we just wanted somewhere to lay our weary heads.

The inn is directly across from Moonstone Beach, which played host to one of the most beautiful sunsets I’ve ever witnessed. There’s no doubt that this is Cambria – and this inn’s – big selling point. There are rocking chairs out the front of the inn facing the ocean, but these were reserved – not sure whether this is something you have to do well in advance?

We were allocated Room #102 – right next door to the office. This meant we were disturbed regularly by guests using the (very noisy) ice machine right outside our room. The room was very “Laura Ashley” – chintzy floral bedspreads, lampshades, curtains, wallpaper– like there had been an explosion of petals in the room! However, the room was perfectly adequate for our stopover, and the bed was comfortable. There was a gas fireplace which we didn’t utilise, although temperatures dropped quite considerably after sunset.

A complimentary continental breakfast is served each morning in the office – this was a little limited in choice but filled a gap until lunchtime.

Cambria itself has very little to offer except its beautiful beach and sunset. We struggled to find somewhere open to eat at just 8:15pm, with a lot of places closed, and those that were open were extremely pricey. We managed to squeeze in as the last customers of the evening at the Main St Grill – the food was plentiful, and cheap, but not particularly fine dining and we felt rushed by the staff sweeping, cleaning and turning lights off around us…

Despite its beautiful location, I would probably not choose to return to the Sea Otter Inn – or even Cambria – again. The Inn did nothing wrong, but there are probably nicer accommodations, and better value for money elsewhere.
