“Amazing adventure, wonderful staff, excellent price”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 March 2012

Our family was in Tamarindo. The driver was Martin who was recommended by Blue Water Properties from whom we rented our condo. We left about 6 a.m. and stopped for rolls and coffee in Liberia. The drive itself is about one hour and 45 minutes from Tamarindo. There are 4 activities for those 9 and up, depending on strength and daring. Our 11 year old boy loved them. Our 9 year old boy went to the Serpent and Butterfly Gardens and walked to the waterfall with Grandpa. Grandma sat out the morning with the baby in the very nice upper restaurant. The price for the others came with the driver and was $135 each. This included horsebacking riding to a waterfall area where everyone had time to explore--about one hour and a half. Then everyone went ziplining for a 3 line canopy tour and a rapelling experience. Lunch was included. Then Grandma gave the baby to Mom and went whitewater riverrafting --the most thrilling experience ever. Then we all met at the hot springs--there are 4 different pools and a suspension bridge across the river. The staff was superb and when one of the babies fell running down a ramp and started bleeding, a medic appeared and cleaned him up quickly for no charge!! We loved this tour.

Dear Jacqueline, thank you very much for your review, it really makes us feel very good with the work we try to do every day. When we created this product we did it thinking in activities for the whole family, and comments like yours states that we did something good. Hotel Hacienda Guachipelin is for ALL ages, soft adventure like the serpentarium, and butterfly garden, medium adventure like a walk to an incredible waterfall or a horseback ride, high adventure like the zip line following the canyon of a river or tubbing (CONGRATS to Grandma) :)
Costumers like you and your family are our energy to continue on our pursue in giving excellent service and where safety is first. We hope your baby is ok by now.

5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 March 2012

The booking staff very efficient. The hike is strenuous. Takes about 7-8 hours to complete. Cesar the guide is very knowledgeable about the Volcano.plants, birds and animals. I would recommend this trip. Ask for Cesar as guide.

We feel glad you liked the park, it is certainly one of the most beautiful parks in Costa Rica : Volcan Rincón de la Vieja.

“The best day we had in Costa Rica”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 February 2012

What a fun-filled, action-packed, and full day we spent at Adventure Tours. With one Adventure Day Pass, we got to do tons of activities. Your day starts with Zip-Lining 7-8 cables, and 20+ platforms (some platforms were for the tarzan swing, or associated with the optional rock-climbing / rappelling). Even though I was a bit scared, the Adventure Tours staff placed an emphasis on safety, and you are actually strapped in and hooked onto a safety line at ALL times (even when you're waiting around on the platform, or waiting in line to zip-line). The zip-lining ended up being SO FUN ! And lives up to the hype - everyone says you need to zip line when you go to Costa Rica ! The other cool thing about this tour, is that we zip lined above a variety of terrains; forest, and canyon, with rushing water about 50 ft below you ! The rock climbing was challenging! But there was a staff member to assist you and pull you up if you had trouble pulling yourself up. This part of the day was about 2 hours long ! You aren't zip lining the whole time -- some time is spent waiting for ziplines, platforms etc.

After zip lining, you get on a horse, and horseback ride to the White Water Tubing. Again, I was scared of rapids, scared of falling in ... but this part turned out to be my absolute favorite part of the day, and maybe even of my entire trip !! You are in the most beautiful surroundings, going through a natural lazy river, with some mild rapids along the way. You'll get splashed and jostled a little bit, but all you could hear was laughing and laughing because it was so much fun, and our cheeks literally hurt from smiling the whole way! There were also river guides / staff in tubes all along the way, watching you and there to help if needed. The horseback riding was about an hour in length, and the white water tubing seemed to be about an hour or so as well.

Lunch was included in our package; the only thing I'd recommend is maybe bring some water +/- a snack. This was NOT provided and with a full day of activity, it would have come in handy to have water available. We didn't stop for lunch until about 130pm and we were famished!

Finally, you can take a dip in thermal hot springs and do a thermal mud bath. It was the perfect way to end a full and super fun day.

Oh, the cost of the entire day was extremely extremely reasonable !! The cost of the day (and all 4 activities - ZipLine + RockClimb, Horseback Riding, White Water Tubing, Thermal Hot springs/ Mud Bath) was less that what I'd expect to pay for just ONE activity!

(I didn't want to post the amount, in case the prices varied; contact the Tour for prices per person. Also, Kevin from adventure tours also helped us arrange to-and-from transportation from our resort. He was SO helpful !!)

“The most fun we had in Costa Rica - a day well spent!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 February 2012

My husband and I visited my brother-in-law for a long week in Costa Rica, so we were lucky to have a tour guide show us the best places to go. He had just visited Guachipelin less than two weeks prior, but was happy to go back again because his first trip had been so much fun. I believe you can pay for single experiences, or combination packages; we chose a whole day tour in order to see as much as we could. You can choose to take each leg in a different order depending on your preferred scheudle; we arrived relatively early, to take the first canyon tour, followed by horseback riding, lunch, tubing, and finally the hot springs.

The Canyon tour was a blast! The scenery is beautiful (I was able to start actually looking around once I got one ride under my belt!) and the guides were helpful and nice. I don't remember exactly how many zip lines we travelled across, but it was quite a few - plus, there's the bonus opportunity to rappel (we actually went upside down) down to a level below, zip line across, and then climb a rock wall back up to the location of the next zipline. Don't worry, that's optional - you can wait for your friends at the top if it's not for you. We got lots of pictures, the view is beautiful!

Next we went horseback riding down to the waterfall. My husband isn't much one for this part, but since my brother-in-law also likes to ride, he was outvoted. I think he still had fun, whether he wanted to admit it or not! The horses are an easy ride, and again you get to go through the jungle. At the end (halfway point of the ride), we stopped at the waterfall and had a great time! We waded and swam in the pool, and even climbed to the top and jumped in from the rock above. If you hadn't noticed - yes, you either bring a suit or wear it under your clothes - I would recommend wearing it as I don't recall whether there were changing rooms down there or not (this would also save you trying to carry a bag). Water shoes would also be helpful (see more notes on those later). They gave us plenty of time down there, then we hopped back on the horses and returned to the lodge.

From the horseback ride, we went to lunch, which was quite nice. There was an open-air dining area, and a buffet with plenty of options for all of us.

Once we had finished lunch (and had a little time for it to settle), we took the rafting tour. Wow! No joke, this isn't floating down a basically wide stream like we do it here - there's a little more of a ride here. I opted for the tube that had two handles - those braver souls can ride like a bucking bronco if they want! The trip had plenty of twists and rapids along the way, and there were kids along for the ride- just keep in mind this wouldn't be for very little ones, and there were a few moments where I was glad I could swim! :)

We finished the day by driving down to the hot springs (ie mud bath?) to relax the rest of the day away. There was a light rain falling by the time we headed there, which actually made it that much nicer to relax into the springs. There are varying temperature options, and plenty of pools even if it's a busy day. There was also a gentleman there with a paintbrush and a bucket of mud - nothing like a real mud treatment! tehre are showers there to rinse off when you've had your fill.

We would go back to this attraction in a heartbeat, it was a day (and dollar) well spent!
