“Great tour”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 May 2012

This was recommended by rich coast diving and we had a great day. We took our 6 year old as well, and he joined all activities. The guides are very helpful with the kids so the rest of the family had a great time as well.
We did the canopy, horse back riding, with a tube down the river plus we enjoyed the hot water baths.

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay here. Most staff members knew enough English to get by, and were super friendly. Rooms were clean, grounds were nicely kept with many blooming flowers and fruit trees. The Adventure Tours office is right across the street, so very convenient to book activities. There are a few dogs on the premise - very friendly and low-key animals.

Food, as most people have mentioned, is a bit steep ($18 for buffet - lunch or dinner), but food was surprisingly good. If you stay here, you get access to Rio Negro hot springs - a $10 value. We came here two days in a row to dip in the hot springs and get a mud bath.

I booked the room at Hacienda Guachapelin because we wanted to take the Guanacastetours.com day trip to Granada, Nicaragua and this was one of the non-coastal hotels where the tour would pick up guests. It was a great pit-stop between Tenorio Natl Park and the coast.

The Hacienda was VERY clean and well decorated, but the beds were rock-hard and walls (or windows) were a little thin. If you are a light sleeper, I would recommend a room as far from the restaurant (where they plan music) and the corral.

It was quite cool at the Hacienda the two nights we stayed at the end of April, but still warm enough that we wanted air conditioning and were glad we chose a room that had a unit. Since the Hacienda is a working ranch, there are occasionally "ranch scents" from the horse corral between or behind some of the rooms. Since we kept our windows closed for the a/c, we didn't smell anything inside the room.

The food was good, but not as good as other places we had visited on our trip to Costa Rica. And since this was the 4-6 days of our trip, we were a little disappointed with the food for the price (again, compared to what we had been getting at other hotel restaurants).

The staff were all VERY friendly and had great suggestions for activities. Orapendula Waterfall was worth seeing. It was a short drive toward Rincon Natl Park, then a 15-20 minute hike to a beautiful turquoise pool below the waterfall. No one else was there when we went so we were able to jump off a nearby rock into the pool below and swim as long as we wanted ....so refreshing!

Room Tip: If you are a light sleeper, ask for a room far from the restaurant, where they play music, but also...

Hello Melinda S, thank you very much for your comments, we feel happy you understood very well the concept of the hotel, it is indeed a working ranch and for being a working ranch it includes some working ranch noices and scents, we are glad you took advantage of the proximity of the hotel to Rincon de la Vieja National Park and to our beautifull waterfalls. Hopefully you can visit us soon again.

This review is for the full day adventure package. Everything was awesome, except I would recommend bringing jeans for the horseback ride! Ouch! The tubing and zipline was very fun. We were lucky and only had 7 people on our zipline tour and 4 on our horseback ride! It rained very hard during our ziplining but that just made us faster! The lunch was great as well. The staff was very nice. I can see if the tours had a ton of people it wouldn't be as fun. We drove ourselves and only paid 85 each! Great value...

This was my families third visit to Hacienda Guachipelin. Rooms were clean, staff was very helpful, pool is small but nice. We took atvantage of the national park, saw many monkeys, hiked to two waterfalls, and took a mud bath. The food at the hotel is good, but expensive for what they offer.

We stayed two nights at Hacienda Guachipelin. We went on a hike in Rincon De La Viega to the waterfall. It was a great hike, bring lots of water. We also went to the hot springs and mud bath which was a nice little adventure. We went on horseback to tubing which was probably one of our favorite experiences. For a value, choose the full day adventure, we didn't for time constraint reasons. I'd recommend you bring some snacks and lots of water because there isn't much available, especially if you have children who might enjoy a small snack after a long day. Stop at a grocery store in Liberia before coming up for the stay. The food was great and the staff friendly. Watch out for the little black puppy, it bite my husband. The mosquitoes are nasty, so bring bug spray.

Room Tip: Rooms facing Rincon are nice. Night sky is full of stars.

My favorite place that I stayed in Costa Rica! I would absolutely recommend staying here! They have adventures, relaxation, great food, beautiful scenery, and wonderfully friendly staff. Considering the price we paid, we couldn't have done any better. I wish we had stayed longer to fully explore all that the hacienda offered. There are so many things that we didn't even have to pay for such hiking to beautiful waterfalls. My top memory that I will take with me of our adventures was the tour of the Rincon de la Vieja national park which is only minutes away. Our guide Cesar was amazing. He will not only teach you about the park and nature verbally, but he will help you to listen/taste/feel all that is around you. I have never had more fun and more learning than on his hike :) All the staff there made us feel absolutely welcomed and would always stop to ask how we're doing and help us find our way. Thank you for making our trip to Costa Rica so wonderful and making us want to come back!!
