We we staying on a beach and booked a day trip to Hacienda Gauchipelin. This was really the best part of our Costa Rica stay. The day includes a zip line ride with some rock climbing and going up and downs on the ropes (safe for all ages, a lot of fun!), then a horse ride, then a really nice buffet style lunch, then a few miles long tubing on a river and, finally, a relaxing soaking in the hot springs by the refreshingly cold river.

They didn't compromise on time or quality, neither on service. The staff is attentive, the food is great, the rides and exciting and long and the price was amazingly low.

I don't know how it could be any better.

The only advice is, if you're not staying at this place, the typically offered day tours with transportation are way more expensive then if you drive yourself, so if you have a few people, it might be better to rent a car. The last few miles of the road are gravel, but we had no problems driving there.

Hello friend, thank you very much for taking the time in writing your comments and sharing your experience, we feel happy that you had such a good time on all the activities we offer on our one day passes, glad also to hear that you liked our buffet that we offer for lunch. The staff will be happy to learn your good comments about their service and atentiveness. Maybe next time you come and stay with us. And by the way , good advice, renting the car is better.

Stayed here for only one night but really enjoyed it. We stopped on our way from Arenal to Guanacaste . It was the perfect spot. The staff (Katia) arranged for our pick up in Arenal and transfers to the Riu the next day. We spent the day doing the adventure pass activities. Would definitely recommend and stay again . We stayed in a newer room with a/c, the beds though were a bit hard.

We stayed here three nights and were quite happy with our choice. Arriving in the afternoon we headed to the pool overlooking Rincon de la Vieja, sipping some drinks and doing some research with the free WiFi. They have two places to eat, one restaurant and a bar with pretty standard type of food. The room was nothing fancy, but we didn’t go here to stay in our room. They do have laundry service, but I wouldn’t use it unless you really have to (that was the case for us) as it was quite expensive.
What I really liked with Hacienda Guachipelin was (except for hanging out by the pool) was the activities around. We did the hike at the bottom of Volcano Rincon de la Vieja to see the volcanic activities (I would recommend to walk the trail counter-clockwise as it was pretty nice to end the hike with the cooling waterfall).
We also did the Adventure tour combo. It includes canopy tour, horseback riding, tubing down the river and Spa. However, since our kids were only six years old they could not do the tubing but we could switch for a tour of the snake and butterfly garden that the kids liked. The canopy tour was fun, even though it was not as cool as the canopy tour in Monteverde (really recommend it), but the kids did it without problems and were even allowed to go by themselves, which they really enjoyed. If they don’t want to go by themselves they can go together with a guide. We also got lucky with the horseback riding. As we weren’t doing the tubing, our family got a 2,5 hour tour by ourselves. The horses were frisky and did not just walk behind each other nose-to-tail so it was a lot of fun. We did two short breaks by two different waterfalls, by the second one you could take a swim. The last thing we did was the Spa, which we could have skipped. I would say we had a fun time at Hacienda Guachipelin where we could combine fun activities with some relaxing time!

My family and I drove there to experience their one-day adventure pass from our hotel near Tamarindo on July 27, 2012, and it was well worth the trip! First, we went horseback riding to a beautiful and peaceful waterfall where you could jump off a relatively small cliff into cold water. Then, we went on an breathtaking white water tubing activity that was an absolute thrill--my youngest daughter (age 12) wanted to do it again! Then we did zip-lining through some amazing canyons and forests. Finally, we went to the hot springs for a mud bath and dip in the hot waters. We also had the buffet lunch there and found the food be very good. EVERYONE that worked there and assisted us was very friendly, positive and helpful. A special shoutout to Andrea--one of our white water tour guides! My mother-in-law couldn't participate in any of the activities due to a broken arm and some broken ribs she incurred prior to our trip there, so she got a massage while there and said it was one of the best she ever had. She also got to ride around with one of the supervisors to see how the ranch operated which she quite enjoyed. We didn't spend the night there so I can't opine about the quality of the rooms, but if you're in the Guanacaste region, you should definitely visit this Hacienda for their amazing activities and hospitality! Pura vida!

Hello friend , thank you very much for sharing your experience at Hacienda Guachipelin, I am glad to hear that your trip from Tamarindo was worth it. Excellent that you enjoyed all of the activities we offer and that you liked our food. I will personally tell Andrea your words for her. Good to hear that your mother in law had a good time around the Hacienda, for us was a pleasure to show her the area. Bring your daughter again so she can do the tubbing one more time. We will be waiting

Just came back from a 3 night stay at the Hacienda and I have to say it's an excellent hotel in a beautiful setting. The staff here would literally do anything they could to make you happy. Whether it's Winmar in the restaurant getting you anything you need, or Leo driving you to the National Park or the Rio Negro hot springs (free shuttle, by the way, and as a hotel guest you get free admission to the hot springs), or just a friendly "Hola" from literally everyone you passed by walking around. I can't say enough about the friendliness of the staff and the service.

Now the part that everyone wants to hear about... the rooms. We had room 56 which is one of the furthest removed rooms from the reception area and stables and it was GREAT. Is it luxury? No, but then again you aren't paying luxury prices. Is it liveable... absolutely! It's no frills but nice enough that you feel comfortable. There's a safe in the room which works perfectly, so no worries there. There was AC in our room which was so cold that we actually had to turn it down because we were freezing. The hot water's hot, the cold water's cold, the toilet flushes, and there's a bed to sleep on. The best part about the room was that there were two hammocks (I think there are four total around the hotel, all four in the vicinity of room 56) outside of our room (open to everyone, not just our room or the surrounding rooms obviously). We literally spent hours lounging around in the hammocks after dinner (use bug spray or wear long pants) or when we had some downtime.

Also, I have to highly recommend the Adventure Tours one day pass. Ziplining, rock climbing, rappelling, tarzan swings, horseback riding (my least favorite part - just ask my butt why!), whitewater tubing, hot springs... such an awesome day. The staff at the adventure tours is super nice and helpful. Very friendly (noticing a trend yet?) and very safety oriented. Everyone on the adventure tour took care of us - all 3 Carloses (there are supposedly 5 in total!), Philipe, Gustavo, everyone! All the equipment is safe and we were told inspected frequently.

Excellent staff, clean rooms, amazing setting, and fun activities. The volcano is amazing and the hikes are eye opening in some of the breath-taking views and cool things you see. All in all, I can't recommend this place enough.
