My husband and I were looking for a quick get away and really dislike the all inclusive gringo resorts. We wanted to see and feel some of the country and we were not disappointed. We enjoyed a day of "adventure tour". My husband has a back injury so we opted out of white water rafting. The staff very generously customized an afternoon for us at their initiative -- we did not ask, they simply provided kindness and excellence. The room was very clean and comfortable. My husband and I are vegetarians. Unlike other reviewers, we had excellent meals - from the menu - and the best tres leches cake ever. We also found the ranch animals extremely well taken care of. Green parrots greet you in the morning along with friendly open people. Rent a small 4 wheel drive vehicle and take advantage of the area attractions. The majority of the road to the hotel has very new blacktop, so only the last 3 kilometers are bumpy. Great staff, great hot springs, great waterfalls. This is a good spot.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts GussieH1996. We are happy to hear that the staff was able to give you a bit of "see and feel some of the country". We will let our staff know that you liked the way that the adventure was "very generously customized". They like to know that their work is appreciated. We are also happy to hear that you enjoyed the food, coming from vegetarians this makes us happier. Thanks again for sharing your thoughts. One last thing, we notice that you gave us a 3 in sleep quality.....we will try to find out what can be improved in that respect.
Hasta Luego.

Thought this place would be nice considering the location and price. We got in around 6 pm and this being near the end of the road we went to the restaurant for dinner. My friend and I are vegetarians, this has not been a problem for us in Costa Rica, the only thing besides the buffet they had on the menu for us was 2 bean burritos for $10 US and French fries. They brought us the fries and not the burritos, we had to order them again. The burritos were tiny, smallest things I had ever seen, on a heaping bed of lettuce, no bueno. That night trying to sleep off the bad meal, my friend and I were both attacked by biting bugs of some kind. The next morning we went to the free breakfast, to recoup our losses from the previous bad meal, to find out other guest had bugs as well. If it were not for the beautiful hike to Rincon, that day would have been ruined.

Thanks for writing rallig002 and for sharing your thoughts with the TA community.
My wife is vegetarian and she eats at the restaurant always, actually she chooses the buffet. The buffet always has soup, (sometimes vegetarian and some times chicken) pasta, rice , beans, vegetables, fruit and some pastry as desert. I forgot the salad bar that has many options too, and is an all you can eat. The price is $15 plus tips and taxes that comes up to $18 per person. And that includes natural juice and coffee or tea and bread. Some guests do find the buffet expensive so they look for options, so we have pizza and chef salad and cheese sandwich . A pizza for 3 or 4 is ¢8.500 around $16.
We will talk to our staff at the restaurant to be more careful with the orders, like in your case. Sorry about that.
We are sorry to hear about the bugs, and yes, when there is wind, bugs come down from the mountain and yes they do bite.
We are happy to know that at least you had a nice hike at the park.

Admittedly we were surprised by the quality of the room. We had airconditioning, it seemed well taken care of, the room was clean and the bathroom possibly renovated. We expected a seccluded ranch providing tourists with a lot of tours and excursions and we were not dissapointed; yelling at the pool and in the restaurant and overpriced meals. We fled these circumstances by eating at a local Soda and simply focussed on the tour we'd do; horsebackriding and tubing. Now the tubing adventure was excellent and something I can definitely recommend to anyone who's up for a little adventure in nature; unfortunately the horsebackriding was more than a bit of a fiasco. The horses weren't taken care of very well and thus cranky, their backs sagging, and both our horses had a limp. They tripped often during walking and naturally, it made the horsebackriding trip a bit of a worry for both us and the animals, despite how we walked (and didn't gallop or trot) the entire way to the river. If that wasn't enough, the route was also very uninspiring; rocky jungle tracks and bits of dirt road to lengthen the trip, with a guide giving vague directions while exclaiming "the horses know the way" (evaporating any idea you might have that you are actually riding yourself, rather than being carried to your destination) The best thing you can do to prevent this is to make this public and to warn other tourists either not to visit this place, or recommend they stay as far away from the horses as possible.

Hello jolanda k , thanks for writing and sharing your thoughts with the forum readers. We are happy to know that you liked the room and that the tours were up to your expectation. About the prices of the food, we are sorry that you find them expensive..... $15 plus taxes and tips ($18) for a full all you can eat buffet is the best that we can do with our costs. Salaries with all of the social expenses (an additional 50%) is a big burden in Costa Rica. If we could lower our prices we would, since some of our guests point that out. Costa Rica has the highest paid salaries in Central America and among the highest in many Latin American countries, so we sorry but we can not improve $15 per person for our buffet.
We are also happy to know that you found the tubing tour entertained, and sorry again to know about your impression of our horses. We have written many times about this situation and we simply disagree from your opinion. It will never be the same to ride a stable horse in an arena, than ridding a work horse in a field. And as smart as they are, they know the way, since they go down the same path every other day, remember they rest one day for one day of work.
The good thing about TA is that people can freely speak out their opinion, even though some of us don't share it at times.

We spent three days at the property.
Pros: Location--easy to get to. we rented a car and I have to say that driving in and around Liberia is easy. The property is located far enough outside Liberia to be in the mountains but not so far that you can't get into the city if you choose. It's only five minutes from the rainforest (another reason to rent a car though I think they have shuttles) and right next door to Adventure tours. You also get free entrance to the mud baths with your hotel booking.

Property--Beautiful grounds. Restaurant is nice. Not exciting as far as food choice but easy to get too and better than normal.

Rooms: Clean and we couldn't hear the neighbors! Satellite tv and wifi though we had trouble connecting from the room.

Cons:
Sketching internet from the room.

Thanks Sharron C for the review. We like the way that you review Guachipelin. Actually with the new road, we we not aware of how close to Liberia we are and still up the mountains. Yes we do have shuttles to the park and to the hot springs and the mud springs.
From your comments on the food "better than normal" we suppose that you liked it....or you didn't dislike it (but we are happy since we did not get a bad review on food that has been an issue at times).
We are working to improve Internet, but it hasn't been easy since the rooms are distributed through that property and it is fairly large.

It was fun to be a cowboy during our 2 night stay after arriving in Liberia by air. Horse rides and hikes are easily accomplished. Comfortable and very clean rooms with a great staff. Excellent hot breakfast included and a fun bar. Pura Vida!
