When I stay at any resort, the resort starts w/5 stars. My husband and I travel often and have stayed at this hotel two other times (several years ago) and had spectacular service. Upon arriving 7/9, there was a 40 min wait in a long line of people, many seeking to file complaints. Not a big deal to us at check-in but that's where it changes. When trying to see about other restaurants in the area or inquire about anything, you'll need to wait in the same 40 min- 1 hour line - no concierge. There is an hour wait in general for anything and everything. Hotel is under major reconstruction and you are not advised of the lack of staff to provide service (don't expect room service - there is none). Breakdown:

Pros:
-beautiful grounds,
-excellent beach access
-bar and a couple of restaurants on site are open
-understanding/hardworking limited staff
-credits for diamond status that can be used at restaurant

Cons:
-Full price for a mostly closed hotel - you can't access the interior - it and a new wing are under construction, directly in front of many rooms. Fire alarm went off twice for quite some time - audible in the room.
-Long lines to speak with the front desk staff (located outside) for any reason and a 1 hour wait for breakfast, if they don't lose your name.
-You will need to walk around the Towers/short-cut through the outside bar and around the hotel to access the long outside wait line near the front of the hotel
-Your resort fee does not include beach chairs/umbrellas (included in other higher end hotels) - $171 = 3 chairs + 2 umbrellas. Also a 1-hour wait to get chairs - no list to put a name in, only 1 register - despite having 3-4 people in the beach 'hut' - allowing only 1 person to be helped at a time - inefficient, esp. while waiting in the heat.
-We did receive friendly bag service for our long vacation but it was also a 1 hour wait due to limited staff, impacting ability to enjoy location or departing.
-$900/day w/ resort fee & tax to compete with "day visitors" who get the same service/access as paying guests - restaurants, beach chairs, parking.
-Day visitors are free to set up gear closer to the ocean than the paying hotel guests...Hint: be a day visitor and save yourself the $$$.

Summary: Lovely hotel, understand re: lack of staff to provide service. Staff members are kind, working very hard, and obviously exhausted. The difficulty and breaking point is swallowing all the added fees and full price with all the inconvenience, limited service, without ever being informed of the challenges this property is facing, and quite literally no benefit over a day visitor. Setting expectations appropriately would greatly reduce disappointment instead of frustrating the many visitors/families who were looking for that long-awaited 'get-away' after Covid and were willing to pay the price. Once upon a time. We politely asked to be let out of our reservation early to head to the next hotel - a completely different and positive experience - and it was granted and appreciated.

Management may be assuming that folks who arrived during the summer will forget the bad experience so many complained about and chalk it up to the residual effects of Covid, but the sting to the wallet again and again with nothing to show says otherwise. Suggestion to Management: Set expectations appropriately and, at minimum, offer a discount before the disappointment in service, construction, long lines/wait times, extra fees, day visitor competition - all that makes a guest feel severely undervalued.
Suggestion to potential visitor: I'd recommend a VRBO option, until this hotel resolves its current issues.

We understand being short-staffed, but this is probably the worst service we’ve received at any hotel, especially one that’s this pricey and well-regarded.
Would NEVER stay again and NEVER recommend to another party.
It honestly felt like no one cared wherever we were in the hotel. Worst service period. And then you get a bill that’s $500 more than it should be.
AVOID at all costs.

-Brutal check-in process – stand in line for 20 mins
-Room ready, walk bags to new building as bellhop unavailable
-Room overlooking active construction, call down and asked to be moved
-Walk bags back to front desk and stow away as new room isn’t available for a few more hours
-Bags are misplaced and finally delivered by bellhop at 445pm, we have reservations at 5pm and therefore miss our reservation since we don’t have clothes and/or our belongings
-Walk to beach to explore while waiting for room and told that chairs and umbrellas are not included as part of our room stay so would cost $80 per day (for 2 chairs and 1 umbrella). No less than 3 people were in line alongside us in utter disbelief that you are paying nearly $700 per night and beach basics are not included as part of the package, while staying at a beachfront property.
-No room service available
-On hold for a minimum of 30 mins every time one calls the front desk or concierge.
-Coffee was neglected to be replenished by housekeeping; therefore, we lacked coffee in the morning and since room service wasn’t an option, we walked downstairs to Eno’s which resulted in spending $12 on 2 coffees. Coffee also not offered in lobby.
-Reservations at Serea Wednesday night and half the seafood menu was unavailable. No acknowledgment by waiter, until we attempted to order 3 different things and then were told they weren’t available.
-Upon check-out, wrong (higher) room prices charged so need to get back online for another 20 mins to have them adjust the bill to the lower amount we booked/reserved. No acknowledgment, no apology.

Room tip: Ask about construction up front and confirm that you are on the opposite side of the building from it.

Do not stay at this hotel. What a total joke & rip off. Under construction. No one at the entire hotel will help you in any way (including lugging your bags to your room a mile away). If you have an issue plan on waiting on hold an hour to even get someone to answer your call. Prices are ridiculous for the level of service you DO NOT receive. I travel often & stay at hotels all over the country & will never stay here again.
