My family and I just returned from a Spring Break trip to San Diego. We received several referrals to stay at the famous Hotel Del Coronado. After investigating it online and finding that our standard room (with 2 queen beds) for four nights would cost us almost $1600 including parking, taxes and fees, we decided to consider other options. This fee was even based on a buy three nights, get the fourth night free promotion. From the website, the Del looked awesome and we had heard so many good things about it, so we strongly considered splurging.

My mom's good friend travels to San Diego a lot and she recommended Glorietta Bay Inn. She said it was right across the street from Hotel Del. So, I got online and checked out the specials. We reserved the Winter Escape (buy 2 nights, get 3rd night free) plus one extra night at an Internet special rate. Our total hotel bill including fees and taxes was $693 for four nights. That included free breakfast every morning and parking (which was $10 per day).

Breakfast is served family style - that is, you go into the dining room and grab whatever you want. They have cereal and milk, coffee and juices, peanut butter and jelly, bread, bagels, muffins and pastries. They also have hard boiled eggs and fruit. Our kids loved that they could go pick out their own breakfast each morning.

The room was great. We had Room 213 which was on the bottom level. It faced the parking lot and was 3 doors down from the main lobby and dining area. It was such easy access to our car and to breakfast. Our patio had a trellis covered with beautiful blooming bougainvillea. The room was clean and nice. Upon arrival we found a bottle of red wine, a box of See's Chocolate Truffels and a certificate for a free walking tour of historical Coronado homes. These goodies were part of the Winter Escape package. Our beds were really comfortable and were covered with down quilts and plenty of down pillows.

The staff was very friendly and helpful. They provided several great restaurant recommendations. One was Il Fornaio on the island. Another was Buon Appetito in Little Italy. Both places were fabulous! One of the staff also gave us some great tips about how to tour the zoo. She encouraged us to take the guided bus tour when we first arrived. That would allow us to see the whole park and then decide what exhibits we wanted to visit up close. With two young children in tow, this definitely was a great suggestion.

We loved having breakfast on the terrace each morning which had a view of the ocean. It was beautiful. When we returned to the inn each evening after trekking around San Diego and surrounding towns, we loved walking up to the beautifully lit Glorietta Bay Inn. Dad and the kids enjoyed the hot tub each evening.

We ventured over to the Hotel Del one day and it is neat but it is HUGE. We were so glad we were at our quaint little inn - much quieter and calm. We could use the Del's beach access which was just across the street from Glorietta Bay Inn.

If we go back to San Diego, we will definitely stay at Glorietta Bay Inn again!

This is a beautiful property with an amazing staff. Everyone went out of their way to be friendly and helpful. Our one bedroom suite was spacious and gave everyone space on our family vacation. We even had a private patio where we ate breakfast every morning

My daughter and I went to Coronado Island as a last road trip before she is married. I was pleasantly surprised with this hotel. It is classy, spotless, and very quiet. Everything we wanted was within walking distance. We had a bay view window room which was in great shape; the bed was especially comfortable. The desk employees were helpful and pleasant. I will definitely stay at this hotel when I visit Coronado in the future.

Room Tip: The bay was not front of the room. We were on the second floor; I liked the patio and the partial view of the bay which was filled with docked boats.

My family of four had an unforgettable stay at Glorietta Bay, and I've been thrice on business. This is not replica history, this IS history, from decor details to the wonderful architecture Just to have breakfast on the patio facing the bay & boats is a luxury. Service was prompt & friendly, and the location makes beach, shops, the Hotel Del, restaurants within walking distance -- and the wonderful Lambs Players Theatre on Orange Ave, which has year-round live entertainment. Downtown San Diego is minutes away by bridge or ferry, but retreating back to the calm rich atmosphere of Glorietta Bay for lemonade and ginger snaps, or milk & cookies at night, was deeply enjoyed. I've stayed at the Hotel Del Coronado across the street, and while I always enjoy visiting the Del, you can't beat the price at Glorietta for a similar experience.

Room Tip: A mansion room vs the annex is worth it if you can afford it. But from anyroom you walk Coronado, including wonderful Lambs Players Theatre on Orange Ave, which has year-round live entertainment.

I have stayed at the Glorietta Bay Inn acouple of time this year and find it an excellent value in Coroado. The Mansion room #102 (the Sugar Baron Room) was very comforatable with an amazing belcony, which overlooks the bay. Extra touches for mansion room guests, such as homemade chocolate chip cookies and ice cold milk with turn down service, are a nice touch.

My second stay was in a deluxe room with bay view in the more modern area of the Inn. No turnn down serivce or evening cookies here, just a very well appointed and comportable room with a small balcony containing 2 chairs.

No matter what type of room you book, you will receive professional customer service, free WiFi, complimentary continental breakfast and afternoon light refresshments. The hotel is across the street from the Del Coronado Hotel and within easy walking distance to the best beach on Coroado.

Off season (October - February) are considered off season and the lowest rates. Go to their website and sign up for their newletter where you will receivee emails on the deals.

It was a great stay both times I was there.

Room Tip: Go to Glorietta's website - they often offer internet only deals on select rooms.
