I love rutts, especially when they just moved 2 blocks from my home. They have decent food, like homemade, for decent prices. They also have good beer on tap. Been around since the 70's, and still thriving. Tells you something

I usually don't have a hearty breakfast but since we are on a short holiday, I decided to splurge. We ordered the kalua pork omelette, mixed plate special with kalua pork and Portuguese sausage and Hawaiian french toast special with char siu. Coffee for three of us. The Portuguese sausage had a kick to it and char siu was on the dry side. But prices are reasonable and food is good comfort food. You can either wait to be seated or order take out or go in the express line. Go early to avoid waiting as we were there at 8:30 am Saturday before Easter.

We had the breakfast Original Hawaiian Royal. Was very good. Tons of food. Good flavors! Also has the ribs. Flavourful! Would order it all again.

For all the Hawaiian cafe fans on the way to LAX and planning to drop in enroute for your royale fix, allow a little more time to find it as they have moved to a new location a few blocks away but off the main boulevard. I had the Original royale (again) and well worth the additional hunt. The new place is just that; new and shiny. Takes a little of the old school homeyness away from the old shack but newcomers would probably be relieved as the old spot had a lot of, um, character. One of my favorite spots in LA metro.

First-timer and looking forward to return. My Hawaiian French toast Special #2 (Jr size) made w King bread, fried egg, Portugese sausage breakfast was yummy and satisfying. Son had the Kalua Pork omelette and hubby had Portugese Sausage Royale. Cleaned their plates. Nice to have choice of Jr, Reg or King sizes with all the dishes. Nice selection of beers on tap. At this new location, you can choose full wait service, or quick service where you order at counter and eat in a separate, but connected, space. It all works. Nice friendly staff. Will return for lunch to try saimin, or beef stew, or Portugese Bean Soup. They serve plate lunch, shave ice, even Hawaiian Sun drinks. Soooo many choices.
