“Park attached directly to the popular city beach”
Review of Powerhouse Park

Powerhouse Park
Ranked #5 of 15 things to do in Del Mar
Attraction details

Del Mar is such an nice beach city. They are offering this park attached to the beach where you can relax and meet with family and friends. It is in contrast to Seagrove Park on level with the beach and you have few steps to jump into the waves.
still the park as well as the beach is popular and it might not be easy finding your spot. As it was during our weekend visit.

Del Mar is one of the best beach towns in California. Truly beautiful beaches and this park is a wonderful place to take a walk or bring the family. Good for surfing too!

This park area, and the beach below where it sits, are pretty much everything you'd want a park and beach to be.

- Gorgeous beach, nice sand, beautiful ocean, dolphins often frolicking in the surf.

- Restrooms and outdoor showers located right as you walk up from the beach. Well-maintained, and not usually overly crowded (in the Summer may be a bit congested, just like the whole area).

- Nice big grassy area above the beach if you're avoiding sand for some reason. ;)

- Little playground on the south side of the area. Fun for the kids.

-The "Powerhouse" itself is a community rec center and can be rented out.

-There are two nice restaurants above the beach as well: Jake's and Poseidon.

- Technically no dogs (you can head north to Dog Beach for that) but people walk (on leash) their dogs sometimes and it seems to be accepted.

- Parking is kinda horrendous.
Options:
*Street parking- better have major parking mojo because it's rare.
*Lot across the street- perfect location, super close... and expensive. I think it's $15 for 1-2hrs and $25 for 4hrs. Check those prices before you go, but that's the general ballpark, at least as of June 2018.
*Underneath L'Auberge hotel on 15th- just 'up the hill' a bit. There's meter parking in the underground lot (look for public parking sign- it's not huge but the alley is across from Del Mar Pizza/Sbicca, etc.). It's much less expensive than a lot right near the park, but you have to have quarters (ugh) and I think it maxs out at 2 or 3 hours. So you'd have to walk back up and feed your meter if you're going to stay longer.

Enjoy!

My kids enjoyed playing here after our afternoon at the beach. We also appreciated the faucet to rinse our feet from the sand.

Full of green space, great views, and sunshine. Perfect for a stroll. Paved sidewalk available, making it easy to push someone in a wheelchair (as I did) or stroller. Come for the views!
