Whales, wine, wonderful fishing. Whoa, dude.

I'd tagged along with my Dad and his business buddies on two trips to Rivers Inlet over the past 12 years or so. Once in the early 2000s, and again in 2014. My return to the lodge was full of remarkable recollections.
Having traveled to a lot of beautiful regions of BC, the US Pacific Northwest and the prairies for work as an outdoor writer, there are times when I feel I've seen it all. But no other location compares to Rivers Inlet. The great fishing is only a part of it — and the thrill of reeling in a catch is unlike any other experience. But the wildlife – seals, otters, eagles, orcas and whales — is really humbling, and in the setting, at all times of day and all sorts of weather, makes the experience genuinely awesome. And I'm not even a fisherman. But I guess I am now...
On top of it all, you've got terrific food, wonderful staff and cozy beds. Dad and I talk of the Rivers Inlet trips often, and trite as it might sound, the memories are ones we'll share for the rest of our lives.

My family has been visiting the Sportsman's Club since the mid eighties and I personally have visited nearly every year since 1996. To say that I have made some of the finest memories of my life at this wonderful place would not do it justice... it is literally one of my favourite places on the planet.

I've been on family-style trips and on "just the guys" style trips, and Sportsman's happily caters to both. Fathers and sons fishing together for their first time or a couple buddies enjoying a few drinks in the great outdoors are both commonplace here... not to mention Moms (my mother has caught the biggest fish in the family going back 30 years) and wives as well.

Sportsman's Club is a family-run business, and the family seems to also include all of the staff that work through the summers each year. They are hard-working and attentive, and encouraged to be engaging and friendly with the guests (which they do a great job of!).

The food is plentiful, diverse and very high quality, and there is a wonderful selection of wine, beer and spirits so that you are well equipped to enjoy an adult beverage after a long day on the water (bragging about your conquests of course!)

Ok so the important stuff... the fishing! If you like to catch big spring/king salmon, hard-fighting coho salmon, or halibut big enough to sink your boat... this is the spot! Each member of my family consistently "limits out" every year, leaving our freezers filled with fish until we return the next year.

I'll never forget the time my Dad and I got a 39 pound chinook together while he had a cast on one arm, or the countless memories I've made with Simon (Sportsman's "everyman", Director of Fishing, Host, Entertainer, you name it!) and the rest of the guides out on the ocean.

I highly recommend the Sportsman's Club to anyone who has a taste for the great outdoors, catching big fish, our making lifelong memories.

From the easy flight in,to the friendly happy faces on the dock when I landed I knew I was in for a great time.

Simon and his crew quickly get you into the fishing with his semiar on the dock. Lots to learn for a newbie like me! Our guides where A+(red beard& number 2)

I was asked numerous times how the staff can make my stay more special. Wow!! I will definitely be back in years to come.

2015 - My 10th visit to Sportsman Club at Rivers Inlet with my brother. The excitement builds from the time we leave Vancouver and fly directly to the lodge. This year was by far the best ever, weather, rooms, staff, food and oh I almost forgot, FANTASTIC FISHING!!!

WOW!! That is my opening. WOW is also my closing. The best fly-in, best fishing, best guides, best accommodations, best boats and equipment, and personable, and personable. Personable was intended to be mentioned twice. You're not a Guest here...You're an old friend at best and more often treated better than your family treats you! Simon will direct you to where the fish are and what you need to get them in the boat. His Mother, Barbra is top notch, or one above the top notch if that is possible. Her focus is your enjoyment and her goal is to make sure you are completely happy and satisfied during your stay. She does a wonderful job and is a Love. I just got home today from a trip with my Father who is 82. We had a wonderful time, caught our limits, and even pick up a few Lings 18+ pounds. This is our second trip there, and this one was better than our first. I almost forgot to mention the Staff. They are a 3rd WOW. After talking with Barbra, she mentioned how proud she was to see a large portion of her staff go on to be Dentist, DR, Lawyers, etc. These are well put together, young who's- who's. My hat is off to Rivers Inlet. They are above and beyond fabulous!

This place is all about the fishing! From the second you get off the amazing float plane trip, it is obvious the staff is there to insure a successful fishing experience. This was the trip 5 buddies and I dreamed about, with a recommendation from Patrick at Snowwater Heli-Skiing,we booked the last week in July of 2014. It has the best location; protected, closest fishing, floating, and not one car sighted the whole trip! The scenery is pristine.
Two guys in a boat with info on hot areas and gear is all we needed, some of us did use guides for a couple days, they are worth every penny! Cohos were plentiful, big Kings heated up during our stay. The food was great, hearty, flavorful and plentiful. Clean comfortable rooms, no reason to be in them except to sleep. Simon, the kitchen, dock and guide staff do an amazing job, usually spending their free time fishing! Great trip! We will be back!
