Tuyas cafe is a new place, and it seems to be finding its legs. We had tamales and tostadas. The masa was well done on the tamales, we wished for more fillings. The tostada was crisp and sturdy enough to support filling (pilings?) and they were very tasty. Our wish would be that they not run out of tres leches cake before we arrive, however, it can hardly be said that we settled for the flan, it was awesome. I would have licked the plate if my companion had allowed. Finally, everyone is friendly, it is a great atmosphere, we will see them again.

Tuyas has just opened on Main Street in Ferndale. It is a beautiful place, with bright murals and paintings on the walls. The open beam ceiling treatment glimmers with little white lights.
The food does have the traditional burrito, taco, enchilada items on the menu, but it is "especialades de Tuyas" that the best, subtle cooking appears. The chicken mole is quite good as is the chile verde. Interesting salads include an apricot & spinach combination with black beans, cilantro, etc.
Las Tazas, a starter, is to die for! Chicken mole, queso fresco, and corn pico de gallo are served in lettuce cups. A single serving features four of these wonders.

You have a choice of asada, adobada, carnitas, and pollo as meat for your chosen dishes. The food is not overly spicy and, in fact, offering a spicer sauce might be a good option
Flan and Tres leches cake are the desserts. Beer and wine are available.
The only dish I would be a be hesitant in ordering is the tacos. Two tacos with no accompaniment for $7.50 seems a bit steep. They were good, but they needed something else on the plate.

We've been to Tuyas three times and the service has been good.. There is a charming young waitress who is all smiles and lots of fun. the other staff is also competent. A woman who seems to be the boss has been there overseeing the place all three times. She needs to greet all of her customers, not just her friends, however.

I believe it is closed on Wednesdays.

While visiting Ferndale and searching for a place for dinner, we happened upon Tuyas. The sign on the door said "Soft opening". This was their first week of operation. They were crowded, but we decided to give it a try. We were glad that we did. The only seating available when we arrived was at a community table, but that's usually fun. We were waited on promptly. Our drinks were served very quickly. They have a small wine list with very reasonable prices. Their menu, though not lengthy, had all the basics for a Mexican restaurant. I had a chimichanga with carnitas and my wife has a chicken quesadilla. Both were served promptly. Both were excellent. We totally loved the meal. The staff was very friendly and courteous. This restaurant is going to do very well. For a great dinner at a reasonable price, Tuyas is a gem. We will be back on our next visit.
