A terrific place to watch fish being raised, good view of the dam, the river, fish being released at certain times, just a nise stop if you are out driving or bicycling along the American River Trail. The inside is not always open and available but you can walk around the area.

It is nice to be able to wander around and get right next to the fish holding areas. We were lucky enough to be there during feeding time and it was fun to watch the fish react to the food truck. It is on a beautiful section of the river with geese and ducks everywhere. The best part is it is free.

We visited as a family for several times over the past years.
Best time of the year is around November. It's when the mommy salmon swim upstream.
It's amazing to see them leap upward through the fish ladder.
The small museum offers free fish food for visitors to feed the baby salmon and trout.
We usually save 2+hours or half a day for this place.

Every time we went bike riding on the American Bike Trail with the kids we stopped and fed the young fish that were in these huge pools that are vertical not round. And there is the salmon run where you can see them go up the ladders.
