Mid-Century Modern Cheeseball

2.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Nov 4, 2019
It's been about 30 years since I've stayed in a Motel 6 when they were a modest $23 a night and Tom Bodette was airing his homey midwestern voice over the airwaves, stating "We'll leave the light on for you." They did leave the light on, but not the hot water heater. I took a city water temperature shower in the white fiberglass shower stall, and passed out in a moderately comfortable full size bed. The guy behind the desk, who looked like he'd been on a steady diet of Nacho flavored Doritos for every meal since birth, gave me the wrong key card, and I opened the door of a guy who was sleeping in his darkened room who uttered, "HEY!!" and I quickly apologized. I'm just glad he didn't have a gun, because dying in a Motel 6 would look really crappy on my obituary. I like the remodeled look of the rooms with it's retro-mod TV console and decor, cheap as it is, is an attempt at a certain aesthetic other than cheap. I promise, I will never return!!

We stayed here for just one night was we drove up the coast. 160$ for a basic room. There is free WIFI and a pool and a few items in a vending machine if you want a snack or forgot a toothbrush but we didn’t have basics like shampoo, a dresser and we were hoping for a microwave but there wasn’t one on the property. The bed was fine and the air conditioning worked fine.

We were charged twice at this property and after we discovered it, the motel will not help amend the problem. We made a prepaid booking through a third-party site, and then the hotel charged us their own rate in addition! Incompetent and unhelpful service when we called to discuss it, with no interest in making it right.

You pay a ton to stay in Santa Barbara, but even if its the cheapest of the over-blown prices in the area, I can't recommend this motel.

The motel itself is ok- it's similar to an Ibis-brand motel. Clean but with no frills or amenities. The bed was decent but the sheets were cheap and scratchy.

Great little motel for a Motel 6. Staff will not necessarily go out of their way to fulfill your every desire, but it's located right near East Beach, State Street is just a couple blocks away, and walking to the ocean takes two minutes. Why spend too much money to stay downtown, when you can have a clean room for less?

We wanted to get away and head to visit Lake Cachuma, and we decided to make it an overnight trip. It was a holiday weekend, and we paid 182 dollars, which seemed kind of high for a motel 6. Location is clean. Beds are cozy. It is close to a lot of places to go to eat.

I am not one that typically stays at Motel 6 but I was visiting a friend that was working in the area for a week, we shared a room. This Motel 6 ended up being a surprisingly good place to stay. The beds were wonderful, must be new because the sheets didn't fit very well. There was a CVS, Walgreens, Albertsons and Yogurtland all in that same area. Close to the 101 so it was easy to go to Santa Barbara or Solvang for a few hours.
