We just spent 3 wonderful days at Bacara Resort. The grounds were spectacular.. the food was amazing..the staff very accomodating... It was quiet and comefortable... The spa facilities were perfect. There were some many wonderful vistage points to sit and enjoy the views... We will return again... If you live in So. California and are tired of Palm Springs... this is the spot..

Bacara is a very nice resort and Spa. The amenities are top notch "Fresh" the bedding and towels "Frette" Rooms are nicely appointed and well maintained. Umbrellas are provided for those Goleta days. The grounds are well maintained and the staff very friendly and helpful. While there I was with a business group and we had a buffet banquet. The room was Olle Hanson beautiful and the food 5 star. We took the train from Orange County and got off at the Goleta Station which was a short ride to the resort. There is a BUT in this review. First in checking the bill there was a charge for parking and this happened to me and others. This had to be pointed out to the desk and removed. Train remember? Also there was a group charge of $20.00 per night which I have never experienced. Since I saw nothing that was provided for that it was nothing more than an up charge! The group sponsor paid for any ammenities during the day. Also important to note that they are in renovation. Although they fenced the area you don't want to get a room facing the construction.

Typically, I don’t write reviews but my recent trip up to Bacara was so pleasant it seems appropriate to do so. The property is beautiful, inside and out. The attention to detail is evident from the architecture, with its massive beams and impeccably polished marble floors, to the impressive appointments in all the right places.

The views from my ocean side suite were world class.

The unique ambience of the property was supported by a friendly, conscientious, respectful staff; busily maneuver through the huge, sprawling site of mature trees and gardens.

The first night we dined in their restaurant nearest to the ocean below. Our waiter and wine steward were just attentive enough to make sure we were completely familiar with the various items on their new menu without being in the way. When we retired to the outside terrace after dinner, every effort was made to insure we were kept warm and snug even though it was late. It was a very nice experience with the roar of the ocean below and the star filled sky above.

The poolside had a very laid back, private sort of feel. The staff was continuously bringing out fresh containers of Citrus Water and stacks of plush white towels. And yet, my privacy was respected.

Bacara was the perfect 3-day retreat for me that provided the privacy I enjoy and look for in an elegant, ocean side getaway close to home.

I have to agree with some of the other reviews. Just got back from a weekend with my husband and toddler. Overall it was just okay (with a few nice moments) and I'm not sure I will be back. The service is not very good at all and you don't get the sense from most of the staff (there are a few exceptions) that they care about whether you have a good time. We waited 10 minutes at the Bistro both times for a highchair even though there were not that many people there. Just standing next to our table holding our 25 lb toddler for 10 -15 minutes for no reason - really?! We spoke with 4 different people about going to Miro happy hour on Sunday and not one of them knew it was closed Sundays (we found out when we arrived to an empty restaurant). The $125 cabana we rented for our toddler to nap in had 4 sides that wouldn't zip up and when we asked for some tape none ever materialized or was ever commented on. (We had chosen the tent cabanas because they have a better view and are more relaxing and quiet being away from the kid pool noise. I found the front desk pretty rude at check-in (forget about early check-in or check-out, not going to happen). The whole thing was rather stranger and we felt like we had to TRY to have a good time despite everything, rather than because of everything.

General thoughts:
1) The resort caters a lot to families (maybe not in the off season, we were there during Spring Break) which for us was good but if I was a couple I would have been annoyed. So go off season or during school or week if you're a couple and want romance.
2) It is a big resort. Online it seems small and boutique-y but it is not. I think it has around 350 rooms and has that big resort type of feel.
3) It is on a hill. Lots of walking up and down. Not a big deal for most, but I'm guessing for some.
4) Spa pool looks great and kids not allowed.
5) Beach SO close to the hotel and pool and really nice and private. My toddler LOVED running around in the water and sand. Plus they're mellow about bringing a discreet glass of wine.
6) Food was a 5, drinks were a 7-8.
7) Again, staff doesn't seem to care very much if you have a good time. A few exceptions, but none of them go above and beyond. I found it bizarre. Most of the time we felt like, "Hello?!" So if you're looking for lots of good attention and service, go elsewhere.
8) Great sandy area by the pool for sand play/kids.
9) Pretty view but like most of SB, with an oil rig off shore.

Room Tip: We were able to get the crib to fit in the bathroom (with the help of the bellman) by putting it thr...

My husband and I spent and enjoyable getaway at the Bacara Resort. We enjoyed walking on the beach, working out in their first class gym with spa steam room and hot tub. The ambiance was serene and relaxing. The grounds were impeccable with beautiful flowers everywhere. The employees, from the greeting when you arrive and they help you out of your car to front desk to room service was terrific. The wine tasting (with local wines) was a nice touch. The Bistro restaurant had an amazing menu and I can wholeheartedly recommend the beet salad and shrimp cocktail for starters. The Halibut with caper berries and Salmon were prepared to perfection. The vanilla creme brulee was "to die for". Finally, the room was beautifully decorated, the bed and pillows were comfortable and it had everything you needed. Felt like we were at home, only nicer.

This place is AWESOME! Its so beautiful!! The views, the grounds, the service all outstanding!
We came here for a long weekend in July. The fog was over the ocean but still so pretty! Everything is expensive but we decided to splurge! We had a great time going to wine tastings and enjoying the Wine Festival in SB. We also enjoyed sitting on the patio of the bar with wine and just taking in the views!

Room Tip: I don't know that you could go wrong, the whole place is beautiful.

I just got back from a weekend getaway with my husband and my parents who flew in from Florida. We were excited to take them to Bacara as I've heard amazing things about it. We were all disappointed by the terrible service from the second we got there until we left. Everything took forever to get (over an hour for a cocktail by the pool) and everything was delivered wrong (drinks and food,) at one point a drink was accidentally spilled on my mother and then we were charged for it. The resort grounds are beautiful and our room was great but there is A LOT of construction including the pool area, which shades some of the pool in the late afternoon. Some of the staff members were friendly but nobody had a clue of what was going on. We were misinformed about most things, from the time the breakfast ends to when we had to check out. I heard that there is a management shift which would explain the lack of good service, but it just seemed like the staff didn't care at all if you had a good stay or not, it was quite comical by the end. We didn't let it ruin our trip - but i would definitely advise to hold off on your trip to Bacara until the new management takes over and the construction is completed.
