Bring binoculars and enjoy the butterfiles clumped to the trees in the wintertime. Walk or bike up the hill a bit and across the mesa to the bluff for a great views. You may also work your way down the bluffs to the beach below

Talk about natural beauty, the Coronado Butterfly Preserve is where millions of monarch butterflies come to mate during the fall. Grouping together on the glossy branches of the many eucalyptus tree branches, you can see endless waves of orange clusters throughout the whole preserve.

It really is a spiritual experience----and I'm not at all religious. Take binoculars if you have them. It's a short uphill walk, so be ready for that, especially if you've got grandma along. The kids will love it. Try to respect others and stay quiet. It will only enhance your encounter with these wonderful butterflies.

The Coronado Butterfly Preserve is hidden away in a suburban neighborhood... and looks can be deceiving. But once you step into the woods, it feels as though you've entered a whole new world. The best time to go is in the winter because the butterflies will be there. If you keep walking up the hill through the grove, you will end up in a meadow on top of a beautiful bluff that overlooks the ocean. Santa Barbara at its finest... Don't miss it!

What a hidden treasure. Millions of Monarchs clustering together amongst the tree leaves. A local resident was there to provide answers to most questions. Easy trail and hike to center where the butterflies migrate. Tranquil area and visitors with cameras although not overly populated with visitors. A MUST SEE!
