Lake Sonoma is a beautiful area surrounded by lush mountains. There are a number of picnic sites that are large enough to accommodate groups such as reunions and sufficient parking close-by. A wonderful place to relax.

First. Fish. Steel head, big bass (small mouth and large mouth) HUGE crappie and bluegill .. have caught 30 pound catfish in there.
Now .. Don't want to fish? Bring the kids and family to the rec area below the dam. Also visit the hatchery. There's also a great disc golf course that rides the edges of the park. BBQ's and play ground equipment and visitor area.
Okay - now - great camping. Swimming, boating, hiking.
Eagles, Osprey, Otters and all that go with them. You'l see it all. Wild Turkeys and pigs and deer.
Okay .. now .. go past the camping area - you'll find the ARCHERY range. Yep.
Go up there on any clear night and you'll find the astronomers from all over the western states as this place is listed as one of the darkest skies in the western states. But, don't dare go in there with your headlights on - you might get scolded.
I love this place and spend at least 60 to 70 days a year on that lake.

If you're in the Healdsburg to Cloverdale area, take the time to drive up to the Lake Sonoma Overlook. It's just a short ride up Dry Creek Road from Sbragia or Ferrari Carano wineries. Just follow the road signs. The pictures hardly do this site justice. It is a breath-taking sight.

Great place to hike with views of the surrounding area and lake. Occasional picnic tables allow for a relaxed lunch.

Collect wines in the morning and picnic in the afternoon. Plenty of wineries nearby. But the lake is fine place to hike and hang out.
