The rooms to stay in at the Beach House are the "OCEAN FRONT SUITES". Great people watching on the Strand and the beach bikini beauties playing beach volleyball. Excellent fishing for the kids on the Hermosa Pier and fun on the sandy beach. Visit Pier Plaza one block south of the hotel for good outdoor dining, entertainment and shopping. The only place we stay when visiting LA. The front desk staff is friendly and the suites are small but very well done. We will be back for our next stay in Los Angeles. Close to LAX also.

Room Tip: We prefer the second floor OCEAN FRONT SUITES for the view and an extra degree of safety.

Beautiful hotel, lovely big rooms some with sea view but even without seaview it was well worth a visit. unfortunately no pool but with the pacific across the boardwalk - who needs a pool. Beach towels, Seats and boogie board are lent to clients by the hotel. a lovely spot

As an annual visitor for a family gathering this is THE place for us. Traveling with a growing family with small children I have learned to make the stay over the weekdays to avoid the bar closing vocals....... Singing is one thing but the loud swearing at the girl that got away is far less during the week. This year we were a bit surprised to have the building of the volleyball tournament all day long for the entire stay. The 15 month old thought it was great to watch tractors all day long from the balcony, but if you wanted the quiet white beaches it was a bit disappointing. Since this is a new event to the location, I hope it is NOT always on our annual vacation week. Ocean view is what we want to see, and hear, not so much the beeping of heavy equipment, and blocked off beach front. The access was still available, but having to walk around the entire blocked off event area with small children changed the feel this year. If you are a family with teenagers, or young adults, or happen to be one of the players in the event you are going to be very pleased. The pleasant rooms are so family friendly, especially on the beach front. The rooms have a book with local restaurants listed as their "room service". Good stuff only serves a limited time. Hennesy's did take our call but the person was more interested in selling me a half priced martini than food for my party of 12. Hotz's about a two blocks south was the best dinner for our celebration and I highly recommend the short walk for dinner. Nothing beats waking up to, or falling asleep to the sound of the waves, we will be back for sure. Hope the volleyball tournament finds a different week each time, or can at least move down the beach in front of the public park. I found the employees friendly, and willing to make our stay great, from minute we pulled in. Felt very rushed out on my day of check out. I was ready to leave but didn't like feeling rushed before noon. Next year I will ask to check in early...... ;)

Room Tip: Pick yourself a beach front room. If you want more privacy, top floor. No need to bring beach chair...

Thank you for your review of the Beach House. We are pleased you continue to come back and enjoy all Hermosa Beach has to offer. We do apologize for the Volleyball Event in front of the hotel. It is a great event for the city, but has never before been placed right in front of the Beach House and we will work to have this changed. It was a surprise to us and for this, we apologize. Please check with me directly when you return and we will do our best to alert you to any activities in the area, prior to you making your reservations. As for our Room Service recommendations, we are speaking to the restaurant and getting their response and we will do our best to rectify this as well. Thank you for your candid remarks and we appreciate all your comments. We look forward to welcoming you back soon to the Beach House Hotel. Best regards, Kevin McCarthy, General Manager

Arrived here later than expected after a long drive, our ocean view room turned out to be a side view of the ocean with the balcony facing out on to the street, where construction was taking place which was very noisy!
we asked at reception if we could change rooms (as we had 4 nights here and did not want it spoiled by noise)
we said we would be happy to pay the difference for the oceanfront room, only to be told by Rebecca on the front desk that she had spoken to her manager and this was not an option, but she could move us to a better located room, which we accepted,we moved our luggage to the new room to discover it was a disabled equipped room with only a queen size bed and no bathtub, and was nowhere near as nice as the king room,we had booked and paid for.
it was now so late, we decided to sleep here tonight, and speak to the manager in the morning about moving room.
A disappointing start to our stay here...
Next morning we spoke with a manager who immediately moved us to an oceanfront king room and advised us he would have to charge the difference ,no problem to us as this is what we had requested the previous evening !

Eventually our holiday could start, the rooms are nice although starting to show some wear & tear and could do with a refurb and paint job
we did enjoy the area, the beach is lovely and there is some good restaurants close by and the strand walk is good for people watching!

We had asked to keep our room on for late check out on our last day, as we had a late flight (9.45pm) back to the uk we were told by front desk this was available , but they would have to charge us a full day rate $359 & valet parking, but if the cleaning staff were still around when we checked out and were able to clean the room, then a half day rate would apply, also ok by us.
We went out for lunch and had a nice relaxing couple of hours on the beach, then headed back to our room to shower & change and finish packing, our room had not been serviced,no clean towels etc,but we got showered & changed etc anyway and were ready to leave at 4.40pm
on leaving my husband noticed the cleaners were still servicing rooms on our floor(3rd) and asked at checkout if the full day charge would still apply bearing in mind our room had not been cleaned that day,and they could still clean and sell the room, the girl on reception was very abrupt and said if you were quoted a price that is what you will be charged
We felt very disapointed in the service and attitude with the staff overall and felt unwelcome in this hotel

Room Tip: Pay the extra for oceanfront

Let's start with the good things. We had a nice ocean front view. There are volleyball courts directly in front of the hotel so if you like watching people play volleyball, then you will enjoy the view. The location is in the pier area so you are close to the action. There is a great restaurant nearby called Abagail's.
The bad things: We were given a room on the north end of the hotel, 2nd floor. Unfortunately, there are a lot of bars just north of the hotel. So, we heard drunken people yelling and shouting all night long. Since we were there with our two kids, we were in bed fairly early and trying to sleep. Also, the air conditioner in the room made a loud noise when it was on that sounded like a train. I called the front desk to let them know about the air conditioner and told them we would be out all day so they would have time to fix it. When we got back to the room that night, it was still not fixed. I called the front desk to find out what had happened and the person there (Rebecca) did not know or seem to care. It was as if I was putting her out to be asking about it. (When we first checked in, we asked her for information on local things to do and she had nothing to offer). Then I took a look at the air conditioner vent myself and determined that the noise could be stopped by sliding a few pieces of paper behind the vent cover. I spoke with the manager (Kevin McCarthy) the next day and he was very nice and apologetic. He offered to switch our room later that day to a quieter room and he gave us vouchers for bike rentals. We ended up moving to a 3rd floor room in the middle of the property which was much quieter.
Summary - for the price, we expected bettter rooms, better service and a more professional front desk. My guess is that they stick people down on the noisy part of the hotel and hope they don't complain too much.

Room Tip: Middle of the property and 3rd floor only.

Great stay here! I would definitely return for that laid-back feeling this hotel has. It is definitely not a large, service-oriented type hotel...it is more of a casual place to hang out while you are in Hermosa.

Pros:
View of the beach - can't beat it!
Lots of restaurants within walking distance
Rooms are beachy feeling and comfortable
Well-appointed and large room with sleeping area, small living room space, fireplace, and desk

Cons:
Check-in slow
Small lobby - no bar or restaurant to hang out at for convenience
Area loud - feel like you are right on the street

Honestly, the staff and some absence of service should bring this hotel down to a "3" but it's just so darned pleasant to be in those rooms... The Beach House can't be beat for fantastic location in the "Beach Cities" (South of Marina Del Rey). This time we had an ocean front suite overlooking "The Strand," which was awesome. What it lacked in privacy it made up for in views. The rooms are so comfortable with well-appointed with a living room, fire place, kitchenette (for left-overs!), lots of drawers/closet space and a nice, big soaker tub that it was difficult to pry me out of the room!

The hotel is less than 5 min (some might say "crawling distance") from all the best in Beach Cities night life, incluidng the Comedy Club (where Jay Leno tries out new material) and lots of bars, restaurants, clubs and mini markets for your champagne needs. And you also get up-close to some of the most amazing caliber of beach volleyball. Seriously - it's like having the Olympic trials in your front yard! (How do those extremely fit girls keep those tiny bikinis in place???) And the folks in Hermosa and Manhattan Beaches are just so darned nice. What a great place to be!

All this is great but there are some improvements that could make me so much happier on my next visit: My room was very clean, but it's showing a little age and could use a go-'round with a Mr. Clean sponge to remove the scuff marks on the walls. Also, the very young front desk staff always seems overly busy at their computer terminals (doing what? there's no other guests at the desk...) and a little put out when one needs assistance. It's not like they're offensive, it just always take a bit of effort to pull them away from what they're doing, then they give this big sigh after you make your request. Even for small requests, like "Hi, where is the ice machine located?..." or "Hi, can I get a beach towell?" are met with a touch of annoyance. And then there's the "deer-in-the-headlights" look if you ask them how people like a certain restaurant, or if they can recommend a good surfing spot. One person was actually a little defensive: "we can't really be responsible for that information." Really? And if their printer is down - forget it. It's not going to get fixed. Housekeeping in my room was fine, but I overheard others who had problems. Also - be warned that "ocean view" rooms are not facing the ocean. They are perpendicular to the ocean and you can view it from the side. (You may want to call to ask before booking.)

So, as long as you just keep looking out at that fantastic view (and maybe bring a little wine) you'll be fine. I'll be back, but I'll wait for a really good deal.

Room Tip: "Ocean View" is not facing the ocean. If this is important, call the hotel for clarificat...
