“Weekend Family Retreat”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 March 2012

We decided to head to the desert to get some R&R last weekend. We tried this hotel as they advertised a water slide, 7 pools, etc. They have a newer, trendy lobby and charge accordingly. We chose to leave to eat as it was not for us with the kids. The large pool area is nice and all of the pools (except the adult pool) are there. We had no trouble getting a chair as I don't think they were too busy when we were there. The room was fine although the hallways were pretty noisy. Self-parking was actually closer to most of the rooms and was $15 per day cheaper. Overall, we would stay here again especially if there were having a deal on room prices.

Most of the reviews for this hotel will be positive. I must not have stayed in the same hotel.

I am sensitive to room noise. I need a hotel room that is very quiet. We planned to stay 5 nights and left after 1 night. I did not sleep all night, as I kept hearing the water running through the air conditioning system. After requesting a new room, I discovered that the air conditioning return was in the ceiling and would go off every few minutes. At that point, we left and stayed in another hotel for 4 nights.

If you are not sensitive to room noise, here are a couple of additional points about the hotel. First, a large number of the rooms look out over the parking lot. This is okay if you are staying in a Holiday Inn or a Hampton Inn, but to me, this is not why I go to a resort.

Second, we had a room package that included breakfast. I know that these packages often do not include gratituity for the waiter. However, this was the first package that only included the menu price, but not the sales tax.

Dear TripstersNJ-

We apologize that you were disturbed by ambient noises heard inside your guest room and could not complete your stay with us. In about 60% of the rooms the heating/cooling unit is located inside the ceiling between floors, which differs from the construction of most of our homes. The original hotel building was contructed 22 years ago and at that time it was considered a modern design improvement to allow each room to control their own temperatures! While the temperature control is a valuable feature, the compressor running could certainly be annoying to those more sensitive to noises.
Our wish would be that each guest is able to relax and play during their stay with us, and we regret that you were unable to do so. If you decide to give us another opportunity in the future, our resevations staff would be happy to discuss room options that may better provide a restful stay. Thank you for your feedback.

Driving up to the resort, you see the beautiful golf course, magenta bougainvillea plants, fragrant, flowering fruit trees - just lovely. Staff at the valet, front desk, Starbucks, pool, parking lot, and housekeeping were all very friendly and helpful. The $23 amenity fee covers internet, cruiser bikes, fitness center, etc., Self park is another $10 per day. For a 5 night stay, the additional fees plus tax can get a little pricey, but I got a great rate on Priceline. The bedroom, sitting area, and bathroom are large and it was nice to have a small refrigerator in the room. Negatives - The A/C is extremely loud and luckily it was still cool enough at night that I could leave it off. It was so loud that I could hear the neighbors go on. The doors/entryways could use a fresh coat of paint and the furniture could use updating. I wish the adult pool was larger...

Dear Whoohoo777-

Thanks for your 'kudos' about our great staff- we truly believe our people make a difference in your experience. I appreciate your fair and realistic comments about the resort services fees and am so glad you were able to enjoy the many features offered at the resort. I do apologize if your air conditioning unit was loud and I can assure you we will get to work on those white doors!

Thanks for choosing Hyatt Grand Champions.

We recently stayed at the Hyatt Grand Champion during the Indian Wells Tennis Tournament. Our stay at the hotel was pleasant, but there were a few unexpected issues for a facility in this price range.

Pros:
Excellent service from staff (valet, check-in, maintenance, pool, cleaning)
Excellent shuttle bus service to/from the Tennis Garden
Beautiful grounds
Good variety of pools and spas
Spacious room with patio
Very comfortable bed

Cons:
Air conditioning unit broke twice, and was very noisy while it was working. These units need to be replaced.
Carpets and couches had stains
In-room refrigerator was very small, and there was no microwave.
Only 2 tennis courts available for guests, making it very difficult to get a court time.
Self parking lot tended to fill up after dinner.

Dear Teewinot Traveler-
This year's BNP Tournament was the best one yet! We are so fortunate you were able to attend and stay with us.
The resort was fully sold out during almost the entire two weeks, and I apologize if parking was a little tight and courts hard to come by. On your next stay, you might consider booking a session with our pro, DJ Janssen, for individualized coaching for all levels- he's very good!
There is no excuse if the sofa or carpet was not properly cleaned before your arrival, and that the AC unit had difficulties during your stay. I hope we were able to resolve all these items during your time with us to your satisfaction. If there is any further communication needed with the resort, please contact us at qualitychamp@hyatt.com.
Thank you for sharing your experience. We look forward to seeing you back again next year!

The hotel is good, not great. The rooms are nice and the general staff is friendly and helpful if you have any questions. The regency club is below average for the Hyatt. Food was limited and the staff wasn't on top of replenishing food or making sure everything was clean. But, the grounds are pretty and the pools are quite pleasant.

At every interaction the staff was top notch. I'm not an easy guest but they were unflappable. A couple of tips. If you are in a villa don't bother to have your car valet parked as you have to go through the parking lot to get to and from your villa. Also the thermostats are heat or cold which means if you have it on cold set at 70 during the day the heat will not come on at night when the rooms go down below 60.
