“4th trip and last one”
Reviewed 27 August 2011

The place is lovely, we came for the last 4 years and enjoyed the lake. The husband and wife team owners are usually OK but this last time we had a run in with the wife who should not be dealing with customers or live where she might come across a customer. She is rude and makes us uncomfortable. I will never return after the way she treated us over a roll of toilet paper. Its obvious that she is a drunk and hates what she does for a living.

means markedly pleasant and easy in social intercourse. gracious implies courtesy and kindly consideration, warmth and heartiness, easy approachability and readiness to respond pleasantly to conversation or requests or proposals. A wonderfully friendly atmosphere. A family enterprise looking to please their guests. If you are looking for the doorman or maid keep driving this isn't even your town! If your feet are on the ground and you want to get right with the earth this is the spot. Roll up your sleeves, loosen your shoe laces and ENJOY. We will be returning!

We ended up here because we had one night without reservations. It was a great little cabin, with a kitchen which we took advantage of. Comfy, cozy. June Lake is pretty. Very spendy though.

If all you're looking for is a room, it's fine. Bare necessities but no daily maid service. No hair dryers in the room (I was informed that a hair dryer is a "personal item") or in the hotel for that matter. The people who run it are a husband and wife team. I'm afraid the wife is not very helpful in many respects. Watch out for the 30 day cancellation policy!

This was our first trip to June Lake and we were originally booked at the June Lake Pines Cottages, which turned out to be a BIG MISTAKE. (See our review of those cabins). My husband called around and the Big Rock Resort came to our rescue. We were there to celebrate my 40th bday and Mike & Laurie, the owners, were just delightful. We loved the property. It's gorgeous, right on the lake, with access to boats and paddleboats and an amazing, relaxing time. We intend to make June Lake a regular rest haven for us and our dogs and we will stay nowhere but the Big Rock. We stayed in cabin #9 and it was so comfortable and clean. There were five of us and we were very comfortable. Great place for dogs, too! We loved it.

  • Liked — How gorgeous the lakefront property is
  • Disliked — We loved it.

This is our second time to June Lake, and the first time at The Big Rock Resort. The Resort is a group of 9 cabins on June Lake, and the area is beautiful. There is a camp ground that is next door that is closed in the winter, so the area feels like you’re in the woods, even though you’re right next to town. I think they do most of their business in the summer fishing months. Our stay was during the Christmas holidays. The Resort is with in 5 minutes drive from the ski lifts. And June is a fantastic place to ski, unless you like the lines at Mammoth. Zero lines, I mean Zero. At Christmas! The resort allows dogs, and that was a big reason for us staying here. The owner has a dog the size of a small bear, but the dog is the most dossal animal I have ever seen. We were in cabin number 9. Two bed rooms with a Jack and Jill bath in-between. . I guessing the whole place is 700 to 900 square feet. The cabin has a living room with a wood burning stove, dinning table and small but adequate kitchen. We have a family of five and a kitchen makes the vacation a lot cheaper. Bring your food with you. There is a small store near here, but everything is trucked in and you pay for the convenience. The cabin was clean and they did a good job of decorating it. It could have used a little better lighting, and a bigger TV. But hey it is a cabin after all. Everyone in the here and in the town is very friendly, which was a nice surprise compared to bigger ski areas. I’d recommend The Big Rock and would come back again.

  • Liked — The area.
  • Disliked — No internet.
