Greeted by these signs saying NO and NO! I’m glad I was eating right next door and checked it out in person first. Online showed rooms available to book but sign on the very locked front door says NO. Also no notice of the hard 4pm check-in policy until you get to the door. Good thing I checked the reviews on TripAdvisor or else we would have been stuck!

We booked a room here through Trivago because pets were supposedly allowed & it was close to our reason for the trip, DESPITE having read some rather troubling reviews of the place on Trip Advisor. One particularly odd thing that was mentioned repeatedly was their Policy of No Checkins prior to 4PM. We arrived there around 3, weary from a 6 hour drive & sat in the strangely Empty parking lot until 4. Even at 4, the door to the office was locked until someone let/ buzzed my husband in. He showed them our reservation & then asked about pets being welcome. The answer was NO, & a Refund was promptly processed!
This left us with no room for the night other than 2 rather shabby looking places in shabby areas of La Mesa. We managed to get a room in the better- reviewed motel at an Exorbitant rate but the place was very dirty with some itinerant people wandering around the premises, trash & pet excrement everywhere! The room itself appeared clean but without Any Amennities at all & the toilet in the bathroom leaked all over the floor! We were extremely glad to leave there the next morning!
Neither of us could help wondering what Really goes on at The Lodge- it certainly didn't appear to be what it is supposed to be.....

Our stay was a good one here, nice and clean public areas and in the rooms also the rooms are comfortable and the breakfast was very good (again all clean) and for us an extra plus was nice easy free parking within the hotel property, (not sent down the block like some in town hotels) so very pleased with our stay, the only negative our the front desk staff were a bit direct when booking in and little in the way of welcoming you into the hotel, so don't expect a smile, that said I don't know if there had been an incident recently and the staff were just being diligent, either way it wouldn't put me off stopping there again as the hotel is very well managed and clean (we like clean)

Room tip: Our room was to the rear it had no view but was nice and quiet, might be little noise at the front of the hotel as its in town.

We arrived relatively late in the afternoon and were surprised that more people were not staying at this relatively large hotel, judging from the size of the parking lot. We had to be buzzed in to reach the front entry - very unwelcoming and made me question the safety of the area. We were travelling with two cars, so safety was imperative. When I asked about this when we were checking in, we were informed in no uncertain terms that this WAS a safe area (must have been Neil we were dealing with, as per the other reviews, as he was very brusque and unfriendly).

The room itself was large and spacious, well-appointed, and the price was certainly right. It was really unusual to see highly polished tile hallways (we're all so used to seeing carpet now) - felt a bit institutional again, but very clean. Our bed was very comfortable and the room was very clean and neat - extra time had been spent on the towels in the bathroom, etc. to make guests feel more welcome. Our TV wasn't working when we first checked in and Neil finally made his way to our room to grudgingly and unhappily get it going for us. The room was overall very quiet, clean and comfortable, but the customer service experience was not pleasant.

I was pleasantly surprised with this hotel. Very professional.....the check in time wasn't an issue for us. They printed out concert and tv show tickets for me while I had breakfast. Room was really modern and looked brand new. Adults only which made it even better for us
