“Beautiful views and an iconic location”

A beautiful building, enjoyed the planetarium movie, fantastic views. I loved showing it to my second grader and then later showing him all the times it has been used in pop culture. Worth it for the views, but go on a clear day.

the griffith observatory has a wonderful presentation of astronomy. It gives you info on eclipses, planets, stars, etc. There are also great trails to hike and lots of area to explore.

“Great Escape from Downtown LA”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 April 2012

Went on a cloudy weekday - still great experience. I wouldn't want to be there on a clear weekend as I am sure the crowds are insane. Plan to spend 3-4 hours there especially if you are planning to see the show.

“lots to see”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 April 2012

We never fail to find an exhibit that ties in with something that the kids are studying. This time it was the periodic table and when each element was formed. Very informative. We also included the Valkyrie show in the planetarium. Really interesting. I've always wanted to see the northern lights, and this was the next best thing to being there. As we headed toward the car around dusk we found telescopes set up on the front lawn. One pointed toward Jupiter and its moons then turned to face the moon, and one turned toward Venus. Very family friendly. We spent about 4 hours there, wish we had had time to see the Leonard Nimoy movie, but it was getting too late. Next time... And don't forget to jump by the seismograph to see the needles move and get your picture with the Einstein statue sitting on the bench looking at the stars. The observatory is free. The planetarium tickets have to be purchased. Check the website for particulars. Each show is first come first served beginning about 2 hours before each scheduled show. Parking is free, but the parking lot is usually full and you will see the cars parked on both sides of the narrow, windy road leading up the mountain. Not a bad hike on a gorgeous day. Tree lined and beautiful views. The cafe food is good, but a little pricey and not huge portions. (But not outlandish considering most museum cafes have captive audiences.)

“Great Views - Best Place to see Hollywood sign. Parking another story”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 April 2012

We did not go inside as we have sen many such planetorium in DC, but this view was great and this is the best place to see the HOLLYWOOD sign. Parking is minimal near the observatory so be prepared to walk up the hill. Restroom facilities available. There is a small cafe(not much options) and gift shop on the lower level. Please note that observatory opens only at 12 noon.
