We were very pleased with the location, the views (from the rooftop deck and even side rooms that weren't at the front of the building!). The studio suites were pleasant and surprisingly spacious. If you are staying on the first floor, make sure to check that all your windows lock. We noticed that only 1 or 2 of the 4 windows in our first floor room could be secured, and told the front desk. We were concerned about leaving valuables in the room, in an obvious tourist location that could be an easy target, not far off the ground. The front desk does monitor security cameras, we but preferred not to take the risk. The next day, a maintenance person checked the windows, and the staff moved us to a room on a higher floor, which we appreciated. They said they planned to replace the window locks, or would at least have other ways to secure the windows. Although we did have to stay in that first floor room the first night, the staff response was appropriate, pleasant, and helpful.
In our next room, we enjoyed ocean breezes, with the windows opened and the ceiling fan to stay cool. We closed the windows to avoid noise from the street when needed to sleep.
Fun to walk the beach north to Santa Monica, where there are other transportation options to other parts of the area. After trying buses, and Uber, we found that when possible the train was the quickest, avoiding the roads and traffic jams. (But it doesn't necessarily go everywhere you want to go.)
For a short trip, just enjoy the beach! You don't need to go far. Watch the ocean, the drum circle, the skateboarders, basketball tournaments, the roller disco, the sunset, and the lighted bicycle parade. The whole scene gave me a happy feeling that all are welcome on Venice Beach, whether you participate or just hang out.
