Certain parts are important- the Zoo, the Autry museum, the planetarium. I really wouldn't make it a must see unless you have bored children.

Whether you are looking for scenic views, hiking, or an astronomy lesson, this is the perfect place to go. The Observatory is beautiful, and besides the display rooms, gives you the opportunity to look through the giant telescope to see the planets closer up. The views are spectacular. The Hollywood sign is just a few hills over and on a clear day you can see all the way from downtown to Santa Monica and beyond. The hiking paths are numerous and vary in difficulty.

So many trails and views, you never get bored whether you're strolling or working on your fitness. It really is a gem of a park in the middle of the madness of Los Angeles.
