The five stars are for the service (top-notch -- friendly, uber-professional employees who seem to love working there), the value, and the location -- can't beat it, just behind the Kodak Theater in Hollywood. It's definitely an older hotel, with some funky quirks that are purely cosmetic and minor (door was a little hard to close, some of the paint and furniture are a little beat-up, walls are a bit thin so you can hear the neighbors), but all the important stuff (bathroom counter, bed -- basically anything you have to use or touch) is tidy and clean. Free snacks and DVD rentals at the front desk. We didn't use the pool but several families with kids seemed to enjoy it.

Room Tip: The queen room (smallest/cheapest) is cozy but big enough to get the job done. If you plan to spend...

On our recent around the world trip we stayed at Magic Castle Hotel in Hollywood. From the moment we arrived (very early in the morning) the staff was extremely helpful and professional. We were close to the Walk of Fame, Kodak cinemas and only a short walk to subway stations. It's very close to the busy hub of Hollywood but we felt safe at all times even when we were out watching the shooting of a new movie, at the centre of the main area, late at night.
Free and unlimited minibar was a hit with our teenage sons, breakfast was plentiful and afternoon goodies were always available. Rooms are basic but comfortable and clean and laundry facilities were verymuch appreciated.
I would suggest to take the HOP on HOP off bus to get arround sightseeing, we went all the way to Santa Monica Beach which was a great day out.

The hotel is in a great location close to Hollywood Blvd

Whilst our room was basic, it was very clean and tidy everyday.

What makes this hotel great is the staff. Always incredibly friendly and polite. They are a real asset and management should be proud.

The free drinks and snacks are great, I have never been to a hotel that does that.

Overall we would definatley come back

We spent 6 nights here late November at the start of our 6 week US trip. I had researched accommodation extensively before our trip, and we were very happy with the Magic Castle, it was an excellent start to our holiday.
The standout at this hotel is the staff, they were all amazing! They were always friendly and very helpful, it was the best service of any hotel we stayed in while in the US.
I had requested a renovated one bedroom suite with balcony facing the pool, and that is exactly what we were given. The suite was really spacious, plenty of room for 3 people, and was very clean. The king bed was really comfortable, and our 15 year old said the sofa bed was one of the best she slept on. We had no problems with noise.
Location was perfect, easy walk to Hollywood attractions, and we loved Runyon Canyon nearby. We hiked there 3 times, the views from the top are spectacular!

Great location...steps from walk of fame, kodack theatre, etc. Very close and convenient to travel from here via subway to places such as Universal Studios/City. Free snack bar 24hrs.... I think that amazingness speaks for itself. Very friendly staff who really know the area and what they are talking about. Heated pool...didn't test out the waters but enjoyed the portable heaters in the courtyard.

Room Tip: It is possible to have a room with a patio upon request. Patios face the inner courtyard/pool so ver...

As I sit in the lobby after two nights here and look at the "Trip Advisor Certificate of Excellence" I'm wondering if it's my expectations of a hotel that's throwing me for a loop or??
EXCELLENT is the Staff... Every employee, every day, every hour is pleasant, accomadating, knowledgeable and friendly.
They are the reason to stay, but even their service does not justify a nearly $200 price tag for a (somewhat) refurbished apartment. The doors and walls are scuffed, the carpet dirty, the vents, doors etc filthy. Better windows in the bedrooms would go a long way toward reducing the significant and unending traffic noise (or earplugs apron arrival)
We changed rooms after a very uncomfortable first night to one that was more upgraded, but still with a stained sofa, scuffed furniture etc. It was a but quieter but not by much... The grounds are well kept and I think IF the room, which includes light breakfast but Not parking was in the $125 range I would see it as a value. But no....
Once again... Staff amazing but this place is what I would expect for a much less expensive hotel. Even in LA

Thank you very much for taking the time to write about your experience at the Magic Castle Hotel.

I was very happy to read your comments regarding our staff the level of service you received.

There is no excuse for dust in a vent or a carpet that doesn’t appear clean. We have an aggressive cleaning program at the hotel that includes shampooing carpets frequently. At times, there will be a spot on the carpet that won’t come out with shampoo. When this is the case, we will attempt to clean by hand with the appropriate cleaner. If it still won’t come out, we replace the carpet.

It definitely sounds like you stayed in a room that is on the short list of rooms that will be renovated next. We are renovating rooms right now, two rooms at a time. The finished product is beautiful.

You mentioned not feeling as though your stay was a good value. I really wanted to address this because it’s such an important issue to me. First of all, I’m sorry that you didn’t feel as though it was a good value. Most of our guests do feel that what we offer is an amazing value and I regret that this wasn’t what you took away.
Most of our rooms are enormous One-Bedroom Suites. We include more than most hotels in the rate specifically to add value for our guests. You mentioned that we include a light breakfast. The breakfast includes pastries from one of the best bakeries in Los Angeles called, Susina Bakery. Just to mention a few of the items that are delivered fresh out of their ovens each morning; Apricot/Ginger scones, Chocolate Chip/Sour Cherry Scones, amazing Croissants, Blueberry Muffins…and more. Also included in the breakfast is Yoplait Yogurt, a variety of cold cereal, whole fruit, oatmeal, variety of juice, coffee, and tea. If a guest wishes for something we don’t have, we can usually go to the store and get it for them. We also include, at no charge, over 40 items of refreshments. This is really unique and adds value. If at any time you want anything from our list…including canned sodas, American candies, popcorn, granola bars, pretzels, etc….just come to the front desk…or we’ll even deliver it straight to your room..and there is never a charge. Kids love this service! Wifi throughout the hotel, Free gym access at L.A. Fitness just down the street from us, and a newspaper delivered to your room in the morning….for around $200 (for a suite and it’s a bit higher between June-August). Being that most rooms are enormous suites and are perfect for families, we’re just one block from the Chinese Theater/Hollywood Walk of Fame, and we’re able to provide our guests with a unique and high level of service….most leave feeling as though it was a really good value and look forward to coming back.

Anyone considering experiencing the Magic Castle Hotel should request room away from the main street if you are a light sleeper, it can be bothersome to some. We’ll do the best we can to accommodate your request.

Thank you again for writing your opinion, it’s appreciated.

Sincerely
Darren Ross
General Manager

BEDS are King size and comfortable, you get dbl sheets with a “feather duvet” and 4 nice pillows

ROOMS are kept Spotless and they do a turn down service with the classic mint on the pillow “nice touch”

LOCATION is within a short walk of Hollywood attractions, Walk of fame is a 3 minute walk away.

PARKING is in the half basement and its 11$ a night

STAFF is friendly and helpful in any way

PRICES very reasonable a Suite is about half the price compared to a brand hotel in the area.

POOL Clean and heated to a very comfortable Bathtub like degree

Breakfast is included, and it is just the basics, but they keep the buffet area clean and welcoming

Extras Free Snacks and free Dvd’s brought to your room 24/7

Consider this when you decide to book a room at this hotel
The Hotel is definitely charming, and I find that it is well maintained, I saw the builders quietly sneaking around with tools and new furniture so it seems like they are doing maintenance and upgrading of the Rooms in between bookings, the craftsmen are helpful and polite, and you hardly notice them sneaking around.

Our first suite was located next to Franklin Ave, where the street noise is loud in the early mornings, and as far as I can tell there are five rooms at Franklin Ave, with street noise problems. If Noise is a problem for you, then I recommend that you make a note of this when you book your room
In our case, and after the first night, we kindly requested to be moved to a different part of the Hotel, and The staff was very helpful, and straight away they got us a new suite in a quiet part of the hotel, and they even asked if they could help us by moving our luggage for us.

After 11am They play music at the pool, and I found that it was too loud, and then it’s kind of like a loop where you get to hear the same songs over and over, I have written a mail to the hotel about this, and I got a quick mail respond from Chief Operating Officer Darren Ross and here is a part of his answer

<<<<<I will definitely be more sensitive with regard to the volume of the music so it’s not heard in the rooms. ”And With regard to the music; first of all…I agree, we should have more songs on the playlist to avoid the same songs being played over and over>>>>>

I recommend this hotel
My family and I will be frequent guests at the Magic Castle hotel, and I am already looking to book a room for my 2012 Easter vacation.
