It would be easy to drive by Jimmy Bump’s and not notice it at all: the restaurant is housed in an unassuming little building tucked in the back of a small parking lot that only has space for a half-dozen cars. But don’t let appearances fool you: this is a charming, authentic, family-owned gem of an Italian Restaurant. Everything is prepared from scratch with fresh, locally-sourced ingredients, and each dish tastes like it came right out of mamma's kitchen. I have eaten here several times and have never been disappointed.
As the restaurant’s name indicates, pastas are definitely the most popular dishes. While some have specific platings, such as the cheese-stuffed manicotti, in most cases you get to choose your pasta and your made-from-scratch sauce. Other specialties include lasagna, chicken Marsala, shrimp primavera, butternut squash ravioli, manicotti, chicken Parmigiana, cannelloni and eggplant Parmigiana. They also have salads, soups, calzones and pizzas. I have had both Parmigiana dishes and found them to be as good or better than I’ve had anywhere else. The lasagna is stuffed with real Ricotta cheese and a mixture of pork and beef between layers of fresh pasta, and the sauce is rich and flavourful. It’s my favourite!
Jimmy Bump's also serves beer, wine, and a variety of homemade desserts. Their prices are very affordable: most starters are in the $5 to $7 range, and mains are mostly in the $12 to $15 range. They accept cash, local checks and credit cards. Please note that it IS a small venue (only 9 tables), so reservations are highly recommended. And no, I have no idea where they got their name, other than that the owner’s name is Jim.
