Good place to stay for a single guy - lots of young, beautiful girls in the summer that stay there, that eager to talk to you after you talk to them in hot tub.. Also Sunday BBQ cookouts by long time residents are great. Managenet allows you to drink by the pool and hot tub - which is great for entertaining girls.. Very close to the beach and bars- cant ask for more!

I spent 2 weeks in LA on business & stayed at this Oakwood. If you are in town for more than afew days it is well worth staying - very secure, great facilities, rooms are clean and spacious, car parking, clean laundries, business centre with free internet, etc. Plus I think they are reasonably priced. There are many very good restaurants within walking distance, and the beach is about 300 yards away. There is an Enterprise Rental Car area in the front lobby that is useful.

The Oakwood Apartment chain caters to people who need to stay more than a few nights, thus wanting a hotel, and those who must stay for considerable length of time, thus requiring an apartment. We have been at this Oakwood for three months and may be here for several months longer as my wife undergoes medical treatment. Oakwood has treated us well and, while there are clearly problems, it is good place to stay under such circumstances.

I would never considering staying at Oakwood for a week. Get a hotel room if that is what you want. Oakwood is much more like an apartment or condominium complex. There are 500 units in about a dozen buildings. There is a "clubhouse" with a small store, exercise room, and conference facilities. The pool is adequate on weekdays but over taxed on weekends as is the relatively nice jacuzzi.

Apartments come in studio, one bedroom, and two bedroom configurations and can be rented fully- partially- (everything but the pots, pans, and linens), or unfurnished. Parking is convenient and the grounds are well maintained. Each unit has a balcony that varies with the size of the unit. As with any apartment, your neighbors' behavior determines, in large measure, how much you enjoy your unit.

We pay rent on a month-to-month basis and thus are not subject to the hotel tax. Oakwood did not ask us to pay first-and-last months rent nor did they ask for a security deposit. They gave us a second parking place at no extra charge (unheard of in the beach area) and have been very responsive to maintenance requests. The complex is three blocks from the Venice Beach pier and provides easy access to the freeway, should you need it.

If you are willing to sign a lease, I would suggest an apartment elsewhere. If you only plan a short stay, get a hotel room. But for those of us in the middle, the Oakwood Apartments provide an excellent alternative.

stayed in the 1 bedroom type. Spacious. 1 room for bedroom, like normal hotel size, and 1 room for the living room+kitchen+dining table.
Clean and well maintained.
Kitchen utensils and cleaning equipment provided.
Laundry room with many machines, never had to wait.
Responsive with maintenance issues.
Free parking and plenty of space.
(also viewed studio type; not so appealing. the extra 20-25% bucks for the 1bedroom is worth it. THe studio type is very similar to a regular hotel room, with an added kitchen corner)
Drawback: about 2 blocks inland, thus no view of the ocean. and some room type's view was very poor, seeing nothing and/or walls. We stayed in one with a small garden with view of pool, which was good.

Room Tip: Must visit the place and check the room to see good view the S building facing pool is recommended, plus very close to parking lot.

When I arrived, my bathroom sink was clogged and it took two service requests to get anyone to do anything about it. I had to brush my teeth using the bathtub on the morning of my first day of a new job, and the staff did not care one bit. After I got past that mishap, things got a lot better and the room was relatively ok. Very outdated rooms though, especially for the price!
