This hotel is nice and clean but borders a noisy street with a noisier train that runs in the morning and at night. The lobby was going through a remodel so the temporary lobby was set up in another room, which was OK. Staff was very friendly. The location to the Stanford campus is great!

I was reluctant to stay at a small hotel, with outdoor entries, but things have worked out well. The room was spotless, neat as a pin and newly renovated. While it is close to the street and the Caltrain runs close by, these noises did not disturb us and during the night, it was very quiet. Earplugs are provided for light sleepers.
There was a nice pool but it was too chilly to use it. The complementary breakfast was nice. Pastries, bagels, toast cereal, microwaveable items, fresh fruit etc.
The hotel is great if you are going to be gone all day. But since there is no lobby, lobby bar, office center or cafe, there is nothing going on during the day. There will be a new lobby in a few weeks, but just a place to sit and have breakfast.
It is walking distance to Stanford Mall and a few parts of the campus.
My only complaint was the mattress. The coils made a lot of noise. I am used to a hard and padded mattress. I did sleep though.
I would say the Riviera was a solid, reliable, functional hotel. No frills, but nice staff and great housekeeping.

Spacious two-queen bedroom with small table and two chairs, included desk with wi-fi available. Chose first floor room and experienced a quiet night's sleep. Large bathroom with separate room for two sinks and large mirror. Towels were very substantial and luxurious feeling. No restaurant on premises and ordered in from local restaurant whose menu was in room. Food excellent.

A very good basic hotel located near Stanford. More of your 70's motel than a real hotel. Within easy walking distance to the Stanford Mall. Great front office staff - very friendly and helpful. No problem with underground parking (plentiful and safe, though hotel was not crowded when we were there). Reasonably priced. The biggest drawback would be noise. Its located on a very busy street, not far from a busy intersection. In addition, the train runs across the street from the hotel. Yes, you can hear the train and trucks at night. (side note...I feel sorry for the other hotel located across the street since its right next to the railroad track). The hotel is a little dated and will need some remodeling soon. No connecting rooms available, so a minus if traveling with kids. The walls are thin and not well insulated. Breakfast was free, but options limited.

Room Tip: Definitely ask for the top floor since the walls and ceiling are very thin. I don't think there is any room not facing the main street. If they have it, then definitely ask for it.

Hello Ppts!
Thank you for taking the time to tell the TripAdvisor community about your stay with us! We're glad to know you enjoyed your stay and found our staff to be friendly and helpful! Unfortunately we do get some road noise due to our proximity to El Camino and the CalTrain station, we always have earplugs available for our light sleepers. We hope you'll come stay with us again after our lobby renovation when we'll have expanded breakfast options. Thank you again for leaving your feedback!

Spending time at Stanford University Cancer Center prior to being admitted for surgical procedure. Will be returning within the week to be admitted for surgery. Appreciated the helpful assistance of those at the front desk for their help with directions. Everything was exceptionally nice at the Hotel. We will be staying again, and should a return be necessary following surgery, we would have no trouble with making arrangements for an addition stay.
