Mitch's is a favorite spot for us. The service is excellent and attentive. The food is not routine, well prepared and usually fresh. For October and up to mid-November they are running a promotion with half price wine bottles. Since we enjoy a nice wine with lunch this has made it easier to enjoy more lunches at Mitch's.

Four of us enjoyed a fantastic evening at Mitch’s on El Paseo in Palm Desert! Mitch himself seated us at the perfect outdoor table glowing with the flattering lighting and seated where we could easily have conversations. Amazed that on a Saturday evening we were offered half price on all wines and they have an extensive wine list. My orange glazed sea bass was a well balanced and delicious entree. Perfect evening!

We had the impression that they were open from 11.30am till late so turned up at 3.30pm after indulging in an afternoon movie.

To our initial dismay, we found out that lunch was over and dinner didn't actually start until 5pm. We figured that we'd go and waste a couple hours and return as the place looked interesting. However, Mitch the owner was present and he decided to open up the kitchen for us so we could order immediately! That was wonderful.

After a rock salted Edamame treat, we started with my usual Caesar Salad and some California Roll which they make fresh in front of you. The Caesar dressing was exactly what I like - with a kick that exploded in the mouth. It even came with an Anchovy - which is rare to see on a Caesar Salad these days. The Cal Roll was also xnt.

For entrees we had more standards - Chilean Sea Bass in White Miso and the Macademia crusted Rack of Lamb.

Both dishes were wonderful and portions good. As usual we were pretty full. But, everything had been so good so far that we decided to sacrifice our diets and share Mitch's specialty dessert - a chocolate/ice cream concoction they call "Balloon".

This thing was scary as it literally arrived as a gigantic-looking 8-10 inch "balloon"! The server then poured hot caramel sauce over it and we watched as the balloon deflated to a (barely) more maneageable 6" ball of chocolate and ice cream on a bed of yet more chocolate. It was an experience.

Service was unfailingly friendly, attentive and helpful. Mitch has trained his staff well. Am sure nobody recognized us or knew who we were as we travel under our real names. So no reason to think we had any special treatment. Mitch's is one of the most expensive places we ate at in the Palm Springs area. But, compared with LA, NY, London etc.it was good value. Overall one of the best meal experiences we have enjoyed.

We had dinner here last night and it was basic at best. We were sat upstairs in the overflow section on outdoor furniture. Kind of odd... The food needs updating, we felt like it was stuck in the 90’s - plating, seasoning, ingredients. My sea bass had an orange jelly on it which was not good. Sea bass doesn’t need anything fancy - it’s sea bass! Service was ok, nothing exceptional. We wouldn’t eat here again. The food is not that good. Only giving two stars (rather than one) because the dessert was decent & the drinks were good.
