If you are visiting the Observatory or Palomar Mountain this is a must stop ! For our surprise it was a vegetarian restaurant "NO meat at all " . Their plates have great flavors, we tried the "Pozole Soup" for me no meat on the pozole it's not allowed but it was great with good flavors. We also tried the Mountain Chili and was great ! Then we had a Club Sandwich that had layers of avocado, tomato, lettuce, jack cheese, "baco bits" & sprouts served on toasted seven grain bread w/ mayo also great! They have a cozy and warm indoor dining area and an outdoor area that looks great but was to cold to try it out. The food was served fast, with good customer service.

Cute little wooden lodge. Perfect if you are camping and you run out of firewood or forget your Hotdogs for the kids.

Mother's Kitchen is a little jewel tucked away on the way to Mount Palomar Observatory. It's fairly basic accommodation (wooden floors, small wooden cabin) but the food is delightful. Vegetarians are well catered for - itself rare in the USA. A bowl of the vegetarian chili was just what we needed on a cold, wet afternoon, and the hunk of bread served with it was excellent.

All in all, an excellent little place; highly recommended.

Was shocked to find a vegetarian spot in the mountains but loved everything we tried! Staff was friendly and I think were pleasantly surprised that we were excited about the vegetarian menu (sounds like some biker-types come in upset there are not burgers, etc).

Shortened hours during the week and they close at 4 every day so beware the hours!

A beautiful spot, and friendly staff, fresh food in a pleasant shady garden. Good huevos rancheros. Personally I dislike soya mince, which is the main constituent of many of the dishes, so was a bit disappointed as I'm a vegetarian and was excited to visit a veggie roadside restaurant, but there are a few options that don't include it.
