The hotel is well situated on East Colorado Blvd. near restaurants, shops and other Pasadena attractions. I also like that this 1926 building has preserved some of its original charm, particularly in the lobby area.
An extensive remodel of the hotel took place within the last several years — “modernizing” the guest rooms. We booked a 7th floor king sized bedroom with a pool view, at some considerable cost. (About $900.00 all in for two nights) The room was very tiny in size. The open area bathroom (no separate room from the rest of the bedroom) had an “artistically” partially frosted glass door to the toilet and shower. The toilet was about 6 feet from the head of the bed, and every intestinal distress could be clearly heard.
I believe the water was softened which is nice when you’re taking a shower, but is probably not healthy to drink, which I did, because there were no bottles of water in the room at all — even for purchase. There were two single use plastic cups provided — not glass, which reeked of cheapness to me.
Parking was an additional per day charge. The front desk man was curt and not welcoming at all. The baristas at the downstairs breakfast bar were all very pleasant however.
All in all, I felt that this hotel is not worth the top dollar it charges. I would not book here again.
