This is not a Public House in the way that taverns, inns, and pubs are public houses. This is a public house in the way Tavern on the Green or the Four Seasons is a public house. This is a pricey, swanky and high class restaurant in an otherwise blue collar and historic old Sacramento. I met an old friend here for lunch in this converted former firehouse. The walls are gilded, and boast original oils 12 feet high from the 19th Century. We both had salads, asian chicken and chicken caesar. Both were good, if unremarkable. My friend had chocolate cake for dessert which looked great. I had fruit, which again was good, if unremarkable. They will valet park your car for $5. An important perk in old town, where parking otherwise is a two hour strictly enforced limit. Woe unto you if you try to renew after two hours. They’ll ticket you anyway.
I would recommend for business, friends, and family. As long as the family has no small children and is willing to pay full fare. Come for the “Robber Baron” ambiance.
