We live a block away and walk the mall to restaurants frequently. I'm sorry to say it's often not a pleasant walk. Sacramento has a huge problem dealing with it's homeless population and many of the homeless are on this mall.

Make a day of it and visit old town, the train museum and the mall. Lovely Leisure day. It is also very close the the river trail. This review asks when I traveled. I actually go often. I live in Sacramento. Great for the entire family.

The K Street area is under going much change - not much to see from 5th St to 8th Street as it is under much construction with the new Sacramento arena going in...but from 9th to 14th Streets there are movies houses and restuarants and night clubs that have a flair for many different tastes.

It is claimed that this group of architects involved with trying to use landscape art and sculpture to revitalize downtown via conversion to a pedestrian mall during the early 70's has been reopened to traffic and........Voila! Nothing much here - at least on the urban blighted 700 block and nearby J Street - long shuttered businesses line the streets= dating as far back as, i.e. an abandoned PFAFF Sewing Machine outlet?!? For those would remember THAT! The new Arena is going in successfully now that the street is opened to traffic and some businesses are getting involved - it is rather incredible to see. The relatively recent Sheraton Grand and Citizen Hotel are on J - at times they fill up tho they have many rooms - if they can return a safe feel to the streets and change the transient nature of the area it could live again. Was very sorry to hear the noted architect Eckbo's work was done away with but they have proof that the area has been lagging further and further behind with businesses abandoning the downtown area in droves the last few decades - credit that this area near the Capitol is unafraid to try to repurpose and redesign "The Kay" to make it lively and viable once more!
