The novelty of this place (“I’m staying on a riverboat”) wore off within 5 minutes. Was it the front desk staff who unapologetically told me my room wasn’t ready, 1 3/4 hours after guaranteed check-in time? Was it the ceilings in the room that my head bumped? Was it the trashy people populating the hotel and the surrounding neighborhood? Or maybe it was showing up to breakfast to find no staff there. No, I think it was the crappy shower with horrendous water pressure. No, on second thought, what really sealed the deal was the noisy rooms. If you want to hear every duck fart and want no light blockout at all, this is your place.

I stay at the Delta King Hotel yearly as part of a baseball adventure - and no driving! First, we take the Capital Corridor from San Francisco to Sacramento. Then we walk to the Delta King Hotel on the river. After a relaxing drink on deck we walk to the ballpart and watch the Rivercats play, dining on hot dogs and beer, followed by fireworks. Then it's back to the hotel for a good nights sleep. Best of all, I get up early, sit on the deck and watch the river. Believe it or not, it's pretty quiet and calm. The riverboat is below the level of the levees so you don't really see Sacramento. Boats go by, nobody stresses out, and nobody rushes around. So it's a peaceful place to be. You see geese, gulls, swallows and often bats in the evening. The rooms are small but adequate - it's a boat after all. Service is friendly and professional and they have a decent restaurant. Then we check out and repeat our journey in reverse.

Room Tip: All rooms open onto public decks so you don't really have privacy for views. Just sit on the deck

The old steam paddle boat is on the whatf of old town Sacramento is full of character. The room as expected in an old boat is small but the amazing view of the river made up for the size.
We eat in the resturant on our first night, David our waiter was very knowledgeable of the local area and recommended a lovely local Chardonnay to go with our meal.
The highlight of our stay was meeting the bar tender Courtney from the moment we entered the bar for a pre-meal drink she made us feel welcome and for the whole time made us feel we were the only people she was serving. We learnt so much about the boat, the visit of the Irish president and the music scene in Sacremento whilst watching boats pass bye

It was fun to board this old river boat even if it isn't going anywhere today - or any time soon. It is authentic - small rooms, period pieces in the lobby and halls, etc. The be wsa comfortable. There was no closet in our room - just a rack with four hangers. WIfi was very slow but free. Parking was a pain,

Room Tip: Our room was very small - but the bathroom is bigger than most cruise ships.

Thank you for your feedback regarding our parking and wifi- We are in the process of improving our wifi currently and will be providing a faster connection for our guests very soon. Parking should improve once construction on the boardwalk in front of the boat is finished. We apologize for the current inconvenience and hope you will return in the near future to give us another try. Thank you for visiting!

This is a fine place to stay if you're looking to experience Sacramento history. The food in the bar and restaurant was OK. Be prepared for a very small room - you might need to turn side ways and duck to get in the door - but that is life on a steamer. Go history.
