“Stay in San Jose - Feb 2012”
Reviewed 2 March 2012

We recently stayed at this hotel, Feb 2012 during our visit to the Bay area. We traveled from San Fran to San Jose as we were taking in an event at the HP Pavilion Center in San Jose. While this hotel is not bad, for us it was the lowest rated hotel of our 8 nights away, 2 of which were at this hotel.

We did not get off to a good start at the hotel. After checking in & settling in, we realized that there was no hot water in our room. Neither the sink nor the shower had any hot water, even after letting them run for minutes on end & trying them in both directions, in case the settings on the knobs were incorrect. So, we had to pack up everything & move to another room. Unfortunately, the next room we were assigned to, they gave us the room closest to the busy road that the hotel sits along. The hotel was not full, but maybe they knew that the rooms in the other part of the hotel's property would not have hot water, Some of the hotel's rooms are in other buildings that sit back from the road, likely quieter. I was bothered by the noisy road, but ran the heat/a.c. to drown out the noise.

There are both train & bus stations down the road, so public transportation is easily accessible. The train station does account for some of the noise you can hear at the property. It is not obnoxiously loud, but it can be heard. The walls must not be too thick either as I could hear the person in the next room snoring at night through the wall. (2nd night - so, we were not going to ask to move to another room again!)

The hotel is not modern but the rooms are clean. The hotel needs to seriously consider de-cluttering the rooms. The room we stayed in had at least 4 chairs in it, maybe 5. Not necessary for a room that has 1 bed! The 1st room we were assigned to also had too much furniture & there was very little floor space in that room - even getting our suitcases laid out in that room would have been tough; we live out of them when travelling & staying for only a night or 2.

The breakfast was o.k. It was a typical hotel breakfast, with a fairly good variety of food, waffles were the only hot food. Fresh fruit, cereals, bagels, bread for toast, muffins & donuts, granola bars, juices & coffee & more.

We try to spend minimal time in hotel rooms, so this hotel met our needs. The bed was comfortable & the sheets were clean & crisp, and the room was clean. TV's were older versions, but adequate. For the price we paid we were satisfied. The previous 3 nights we had stayed in a very nice, new, modern hotel outside of San Fran with many extra perks and amenities. It is harder to step down to a less modern hotel after that experience.

Room Tip: If possible, stay in one of the rooms further back from the road.

We were given room 106. It couldn't have been more perfect. The beautiful vaulted ceiling made the room feel larger. Because it was on the end of the building, it had two nice windows. Being able to park right outside our door was extra convenient.

Though the building has possibly been there a long time, it's very clean and beautifully decorated. All of the typical goodies (including a shower cap which many motels don't include) were replenished each day. The service was professional, friendly and helpful.

The business event we were attending was at the fair grounds, less than 2 miles away. It was easy to come and go any time of the day or night.

I don't know what the other rooms were like, but we loved our room. Oh.. and the internet was the fastest I'd ever experienced. (we can't get DSL where we live.. so this was a treat)

The breakfast was 'continental'.. but very adequate with a good selection. We would definitely stay there again if/when in the San Jose area.

oh - Instead of getting a pizza for dinner, about 1 mile south on Monterey Hwy, you'll find Toni Di Maggio's Pizza. The Stromboli is probably the best on the planet. (and it helps support the small local businesses)

Room Tip: Room 106 was outstanding. (at the front end of the second building) Almost no road noise.

The room is comfortable and clean. It is attractive but by no means plush or fancy. Its location is convenient to downtown San Jose and not far from 101. The breakfast was good but not exceptional. There was a choice of cereals, hot waffles, bread and begals, juices and coffee.

Traveled from the Central Valley for an event at Valley Christian School - so the distance was why this room was booked, along with 2 other rooms for additional families.

Pulled down the comforter & there to my horror was a bodily fluid stain. No mistaking it. Had to go down to the front desk & change my own sheets.

Sketchy neighborhood to say the least.

Very nice hotel, quiet and large. Three floors of 10 rooms on each floor.
The rooms are big enough to host even three to a room.
Multi-channel TV, king-size bed and shower, comfortable and pleasant.
Air-conditioned room coffee and a small kitchenette with microwave and utensils.
Excellent breakfast with great selection (relative to American breakfast).
Close to the airport and the motorways to travel to any site in the region.
In summary a very good hotel, nice and rested.

Room Tip: my room was quit good - 307

I was reluctant to stay after reading some of the reviews of this place. But I was pleasantly surprised, not bad at all. The room was clean and the bed was nice. We stayed a week and housekeeping was superb. The television could use more channels, but we we're on vacation and mostly seeing the sights in and around town. Having a fridge and microwave in the room was a bonus. No bad experiences. We would definitely stay again.

I was in San Jose on family matters when we made a last-minute booking for this place. The price was very satisfactory for a big room with 2x queen beds. Our relatives even ended up moving in here as well, after being dissatisfied with the Holiday Inn, and were very pleased with their decision to move.

As mentioned, the rooms are quite spacious. The beds are very comfortable, but I found the pillows too soft for my liking. The shower was powerful with plenty of hot water. Everything was very clean.

Front desk staff are friendly and welcoming. When we had a toilet blockage one night, someone did forget to send up the plumb as requested, but the problem was dealt with promptly and efficiently the following morning.

Breakfast included hot beverages, juice, eggs, waffles (self-service waffle maker), cereal, several types of bread, as well as boxes of brownies, mini cinnamon scrolls etc. Tasty and will fill you up well (though of course not as spectacular as what I've been spoiled with at European hotels). Bottles of water can be found in the minifridge in the breakfast room if you need one for the day.

The location worked perfectly for our purposes and activities, which were mostly in the vicinity, and we had a car (for which there was ample, free parking at the hotel). However it may not suit everyone's needs, especially if you don't have a car, as it's a bit out of the way. But then again, San Jose really is a place where you generally do need a car.

We would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: We preferred the rooms in the main building where reception is also located.
