Owner description: The locals call it Hendry's Beach, a place to meet for breakfast or a cocktail at sunset, stroll or jog the sandy shore, watch for whales, fish or ride the wild surf.

Pit bulls and other dogs are allowed to run free at Arroyo Burro Beach. (The locals call it Hendry's Beach, gentrification even in a name). The only things is that now, with all the pitbulls in shelters here, people are adopting them but ignorant on how to control them. Other foolish dog owners, not necessarily pit bulls (that's just the scariest breed I've seen running far from its owners since its allowed to run unleashed) have no control over their dogs and think that just because it is leash-free that they're entitled to be part of it too. Wrong! You are 100 pounds thinner than your pit, shepherd, whatever, and cannot control it. AND you're too busy on your cell phone. What used to be a beautiful beach where dogs can be dogs is now just a circle of stupid, weak, and negligent dog owners who think every dog has equal rights--they don't if they're vicious and you, the owner, should be on a leash when you endanger other dogs and people on this oasis of a paradise passed.

We love this dog beach so much that we go every chance we get. Our dogs have so much fun, and we love that they have a dog wash in the parking lot. I think it's the most beautiful beach in the area. Fun for humans, too!

This beach has fantastic views with the Channel Islands as the back drop. It is easily accessible, although the parking can be a problem on weekends and holidays. It is a "leash free" beach (on the east side of the slough) so your pooch will love it. One can walk for miles both east and west. Often one sees dolphins and occasionally whales. There is a fine restaurant there called The Boat House. The only down side is the amount of tar one can sometimes find on the shore, so wear old shoes, or if barefoot, have baby oil and cotton balls to help remove it.

Eat, drink, swim, sun, laugh, play...all here! When you pull in go to the left to park and walk to restaurant, if you are unloading a kayak or folks go in on the right...too crowded to get parking close to restaurant showers and beach on good weather days and weekends
