“Montecito get away”
Reviewed 31 October 2011

The Montecito Inn was a very pleasant surprise. It is a small hotel located in upscale Montecito just south of Santa Barbara. The hotel is very old (built in 1928). As with any old hotel, it shows its age. I rented the Queen Mountain View room, which is a little bit bigger and has more windows than the regular queen room. It was an adequate size, but a little bit worn. They could use new bed covers and headboards. There was no airconditioning, but the fan proved to be enough for an October night. The windows were a bit hard to open and never could get the bathroom window closed again.
The biggest problem is that the hotel is located very near the 101 highway and on a busy intersection. So you hear traffic noise all night long.
If you are the type that can handle a little traffic noise and older hotel quirks, then I would definitely recommend the Montecito Inn.

I've stayed here 4 times to visit my daughter at Westmont College. It's a great location but...it's right off the freeway and by a busy intersection. You either stay on the side of the hotel with traffic or on the other side where there is a loud restaurant. Overall it's a good value and it's a charming little hotel.

The Montecito Inn looks a bit like an old time roadside motel. It actually is a unique, Mediterranean style Inn built by Charlie Chaplin to accommodate his guests back in the day. The rooms are small but sufficient. The overall ambience is friendly and comfortable. There were many returning guests, always a good sign. The service is very friendly and often one:one to assure your needs are met.

I have to say I was very impressed by this charming hotel. The room we stayed in was a little on the small side, but we wernt going to be spending much time there but to sleep. Old charming feel, but very clean. Staff was very nice too even though we arrived at midnight. The location is ideal. It is right by the Highway and even though its close to the highway, it is very quiet. Right down the street from little shops and restaurants. Its a continental breakfast which they charge $8 a person for ( not really that worth it in my opinion) Otherwise, this is a great place to stay.

We stay at the Montecito Inn when we are attending an event at the Biltmore (Four Seasons). It is half the price and in a charming village with restaurants and shopping. The inn was built in the 30s, by Charlie Chaplin, and has lots of charm. The regular rooms are small, can be warm and most rooms are noisy. Room 316 is a room with two queens and two small baths. It has the best ocean breeze. The restaurant is really good, but the continental breakfast leaves a lot to be desired. If you want a good breakfast go to Jeanine's or Tres Lune (great for dinner as well), both same side of the road down the street. The staff is really helpful.

When we booked our room by phone several months ago we were not told that there was no air conditioning in the room. When we complained were offered a room with air conditioning for the 1st night for an additional $91. We chose to stay in our original room. We kept the window open, which let in a lot of noise from the highway nearby, but the ceiling fan helped to muffle that. The room was attractive, but small. The bed was comfortable. There is a serious problem with repeated shifts in the water temperature in the shower. A friendly person at the front desk explained that it had to do with it being an old building and that there was nothing they could do about it. The elevator is the old fashioned kind_It added to the quaint feeling. The fitness center is small, but adequate for an inn.

My husband and I spent a "staycation" at this hotel away from our kids for one night. It was pure heaven. The location is ideal - we were able to walk to dinner (with lots of delicious places to chose from all very close by) and the next day spent time down at beautiful Butterfly Beach. The breakfast was perfect for what we were looking for. The staff were all very helpful, friendly, and knowledgable. We will definitely be back - this hotel is a treasure for guests coming from both near and far!
