“Great hotel with all you really need”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 March 2012

We had a hard time deciding where to stay in Santa Barbara, it was our first trip and we wanted nice, easy but not crazy expensive. The Inn by the Harbor was perfect. I asked for their more quiet room and they delivered. The lovely hot tub is great. We are in our mid to upper 30s and were definitely the younger crowd there. Enjoyed the wine and snacks. Our favorite part were the awesome beach cruiser bikes. We used them each day, they'll even give you a back pack for loan. Our Room, #38 was clean, nicely decorated and just what we needed. I didn't think we'd watch movies but after biking all day and enjoying the hot tub, a movie was perfect. They have a good thing going.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the Museum are more quiet.

Inn by the Harbor is a wonderful hotel - you feel like you are at home, except paradise is just a bike ride away. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. The accommodations are very comfortable, clean, and cozy. The hot tub is great - even on a cold night! We were able to ride bikes and rent a movie for free! We did not make it to the wine and cheese reception but thought that was such a nice touch. I would stay here again in a heartbeat. Can't wait to go back!

Room Tip: If you want a kitchen, make sure to ask for one. I am not sure every room has one.

I was lucky enough to get a one night Saturday stay at this hotel. Like the other reviews there is a not so kept up place on the property next door, but it really doesn't matter. This hotel is great and has great amenities. We arrived to the wine and cheese reception, which had GREAT wine. We were able to rent 2 dvds for free to watch in our room. After our dinner out we came back to a milk and cookie reception. In the morning we went down to enjoy a pretty complete breakfast (cereals, oatmeal, coffee, breads/bagels, pastries, fruit, hardboiled eggs, juice, etc.)

The staff that checked us in and out and assisted us with DVD rentals were fantastic, fast, and courteous.

The bed was very comfortable, but the pillows were too flat for my liking and I didn't discover until the next morning the extra pillow (and slightly firmer) in the closet.

The room was adequate and clean. There is a sliding door overlooking the pool and jacuzzi, with a bench to sit out on the balcony (it is a walkway).

This was a great stay and especially for a Saturday night in Santa Barbara, and trying to get a one night accomodation. I was very pleased.

I only had one night here on my way from san francisco to LA. After 11 hours on the road we arrived. Initally I was a bit shocked as it looks like a motel, building next door looks a bit run down. However hont let that put you off. Free wine, great pool and hot tub, nice breakfast, lovely staff. Rooms spotless very very good value. Would stay again.

This was our first visit to Santa Barbara and the Inn by the Harbor was a perfect place to stay. The location is not on the water, but it is only a short walk (10-15 minutes) to the restaurants and attractions on State Street or down by the water.

The property and rooms are clean and well maintained. The location is in a transitional neighbourhood, but all of the rooms are well back from the road and very quiet. We never felt unsafe, even when walking at night.

The hotel offers a number of free services including breakfast, afternoon happy hour, and cookies and milk at night. It was a great way to meet fellow guests and feel like you were more than just a paying guest.

The best feature of all is the staff - friendly and helpful. Whether you are looking for a good restaurant or directions to one of the attractions, they are there to help.

Room Tip: If you need cooking facilities, rooms with kitchens are available.

We were originally booked in to stay 4 nights but my father suffered a stroke and had to have brain surgery and was hospitalised for 7 days, so my mother and I had to extend our stay by 12 nights. The staff couldn't have been more caring or helpful. Breakfast is great and plentiful, late afternoon cheese and wine is a real treat and then cookies at milk in the evening! The rooms are very comfortable and we also had a kitchen which was good once Dad was discharged from hospital, and they have the most amazingly comfortable beds. So comfortable, we have contacted the Simmons Beautyrest supplier in the UK to order one! During our stay in Santa Barbara we also stayed at one of the larger and more expensive hotels but it just doesn't measure up to the friendliness and ambience of the Inn by the Harbor. If I'm back in SB this would definitely be my first choice.

Room Tip: We choose a 2 queen bed room with separate kitchen on the ground floor (room 9). The room was quiet...

We stopped off in Santa Barbara for the evening on our way to San Diego.
Fantastic staff, they are one of the most friendly and helpful staff I have met! Very nice touch with the wine and cheese hour, cookies and milk in the early evening and a simple breakfast in the mornings. It adds to the coziness of this place.
The location is okay. About a 10 min walk to the beach and another 10 min to State Street (maybe it can be walked quicker...)
The rooms are ok. I think they need to be modernised a bit. The bathroom was too small and cramped and certainly needs a make over. The beds are very good. Very nice that the room had a small kitchen, excellent if you were going to have an extended stay!
