Beautiful historic hotel in downtown Santa Barbara, half a block off State Sfreet and across the street from the microbrewery. Couldn't be more convenient. Helpful staff. Beautiful room. Quiet, gorgeous views outside our window. Includes full hot breakfast but does not include the nightly managers special of free wine, cheese and crackers that we've experiences at other Holiday Inn Express hotels. We would stay here again. Comfortable bed, lovely hotel reception area, the dining area is small so be prepared for no place to sit in the mornings, you may have to take your food upstairs to eat! All in all, we really enjoyed this hotel.

Even though we were lucky to have one of the quiet rooms in this hotel, we were awakened by other guests when they came home at 2:00 a.m. after a night of partying.

Our room was not large, but it was big enough, it was comfortable, and it was decorated in a pleasing style.

The hotel is well situated for walking around downtown or to the pier.

The staff was friendly and helpful.

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the street.

We stayed for two nights and were disappointed by the state of our room which was in need of renovation. The bathroom fan had to be disconnected as it was so noisy. The hotel was busy and noisy and Santa Barbara was a big disappointment being full of vagrants and beggars. We will not go back, it was the only let down on a month long trip to the West.

We stayed at the Holiday Inn Express when we visited Santa Barbara in September. We thought it was a decent hotel. The best part was the location. We were really close to State St where all the shopping and restaurants were. We were also within walking distance to the beach. The room was small but clean. Staff was very nice and accommodating. We would stay again because of the value and proximity to everything we want to do while in SB.

Rated overall 5 star not because it is a 5 star hotel, because it is not, or because I loved it...but based on price to location to destination, Holiday Inn Express is hard to beat - can't believe I just said that about a Holiday Inn Express.

Santa Barbara is expensive to stay. There are cheaper motel type places for sure, but not that much cheaper during the busier season. For a Holiday Inn Express, for close to $200/night this is not cheap. However, for Santa Barbara downtown area, you can get a better hotel but be prepared to pay $300+.

Convenience is awesome - 1/2 block from State street and walking distance everywhere. It quieter than off State Street but really close. Nominal parking fee.

Hotel - solid, clean and in good location. Nothing special, can't complain. Breakfast included and it was solid, slightly better than most inclusive continental breakfast type places. Clean tables, and CNN on TV.

Service - provided tips of wine tasting rooms, put in rollaway bed when asked, and answered questions. No lines.

I have stayed here on 3 straight trips over the years for a golf weekend and we always stay here for convenience and relative value (relative to SB prices).

We stayed at the Holiday Inn Express and found it to be very conveniently located. Basic amenities with free breakfast options. Well situated so a good place to stay the night. We stayed on the parking lot side so it was pretty quiet aside from hallway noise. We had booked one king bed room and one 2 queen beds room for the same price each but the room with the 2 queens was much larger and had a microwave and mini-fridge. Steps from State Street so no need to drive to grab coffee or a meal. Parking lot charges $15.
