“Wonderful place”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 December 2011

My husband and I stayed here twice. This was a few years ago and apparently when it was first opened, because the rates were more affordable for us then. This is truly a special place, and clearly everyone else thinks so too, so they have been able to raise their rates and stay full (only four rooms).

Based on reviews here, it's still great -- quiet, very clean, totally charming, AND walking distance to the great downtown Santa Cruz area. Delightful morning breakfast items. You never see the proprietors but they are always available by phone. Excellent library of DVDs to take to your room. If you want to be waited on by staff and having someone tote your bags for you, stay away, but if you are independent and just want quiet, privacy and comfort, you get it here.

We felt revived even after staying just one night. Of all the places we stayed around the globe, none harmonized so well with our own personal wishes. The Adobe was quiet, homy, gorgeous, spot clean, and conveniently located, and just had the most amazing ambiance. We were simply amazed.

Room Tip: There are no bad choices to make, except for not coming here.

My honey and I came down to Santa Cruz for a birthday weekend and we couldn't have been more pleased with our stay at Adobe on Green Street. I would recommend it to every and anyone who might be looking for a place to stay in Santa Cruz. It's been almost a month since our stay and I still remember fondly waking up in the cozy bed to the sound of the birds chirping and water fountain in the garden. I only wish we had more time to enjoy the place and the tranquility of the space.

So, we are cruising down the central coast as a couple of land-locked Nebraskans and lucked out to stay at Adobe on Green (well not all luck, we did some research and talked with a couple of locals over great beer at Santa Cruz Mountain Brewing). We called at the last minute, literally after 7 pm and looking to settle in by 8 pm). Left a message, which was definitely different, and had a return call within 15 minutes. We were set up with a room and given instructions of how to access the house. A few too many IPA's and we didn't follow the instructions too well, but fortunately another couple with Adobe experience straightened us out.

Found our space, settled in, went down to the complimentary DVD library (chose Spinal Tap-Awesome!!!) and slid into the ultra-soft bed. Only wish was that a King-size was an option. The helpful couple was staying above us and never heard a thing from them. The morning was just as fantastic. Great breakfast items, ate outside and felt like we were sitting on a tropical mountainside retreat. Even had a super sweet kitty hangin' with us. Sipped coffee and tea and read through their thorough book of recommendations for the Santa Cruz area.

Summary: totally awesome place if you are self-sufficient, like little fuss, and ultra-clean, affordable, quiet, and unique experiences.

Peace to the owners and thank you.

Room Tip: Didn't get to see a lot of rooms, but after looking at web site I would trust your instincts.

We stayed at the Adobe after reading the TripAdvisor reviews and it single-handedly restored our faith in B&Bs.

In England, B&Bs can be very mixed, and what you save on hotel prices you often pay for in dated furnishings, poor service, and lack of privacy.

None of these things applied at the Adobe, where the rooms were smart and clean, with quiet communal areas.

The best part of the Adobe was the care the owners had taken to stay out of guests way - respecting their privacy and the desire many people have to be left alone to enjoy their stay. The owners' declaration in the in-room guide that this is what they wanted to achieve was very heartening as we have wanted this in a B&B for years.

There is ample parking and the breakfast was excellent, with home made scones and preserves and plenty of selection.

We visited the 'Chocolate' restaurant in town that was recommended by the owners in their guide and it was a good tip.

If we are ever in Santa Cruz again we will definitely choose the Adobe - it was a real pleasure and next time we will stay for longer.
