My wife and I celebrated our 23rd anniversary here and loved this historic house. We stayed in Rm. 11, 3rd floor Attic rm and the room was great, tastefully remodeled and very unique. 2 min walk to the Boardwalk and Beach. Will definitely stay here again...

Room Tip: Loved the 3rd story rm views

We recently stayed in Room #7 for two nights in July. To say that we were disappointed is an understatement. The room is very small, with a little view of the ocean if you are standing the correct way. The main rug on the floor had spots and was extremely dirty. The jacuzzi tub had black particles coming from the pipes, when we mentioned it to the front desk they said they would have housekeeping clean the pipes the next day and fix the problem. The next day, after housekeeping had left there were still black particles coming from the pipes. The front desk said the manager would look at the problem and refund some of our money since we could not use the tub. The day we left the manager still had not "looked" at the tub and we had to call several times to ask for a refund only to have no one return our call. The main coffee pot in the sitting area also was not working, so in the morning there was one carafe of cold coffee for everyone staying there!!! Breakfast was laughable, a few pieces of fruit, dried out baked goods, yogurt and that is about it. Not to mention that the hotel is located in a horrible area, lots of homeless people wondering around, noise in the middle of the night and while it is a close walk to the boardwalk, it is not the best area to be walking around at night. Could be a cute place if it was managed differently!

I booked a room same day, after stopping in Santa Maria for lunch at the harbor. To begin, it has a bed and breakfast feel. Our room was #12 on the third floor. We loved it. Everything was clean, the guy at the front desk was friendly and provided us with great service. I called front desk for extra towels and he brought me a whole clean set of ALL towels. The AC unit in our room was very noisy, but luckily we didn't need it on during the night. Our bathroom was the best part, the shower heads are amazing! Parking is free and seems relatively safe, just use common sense and do not leave any belongings in sight. The location was perfect, it was a short 5 minute walk to the beach/boardwalk. We only stayed one night, as we were only passing through, but would love to be back again!
Things to note:
1. Check-in @ 3pm
2. Check-out @ 11am
3. No one at front desk from 9pm-10am (emergency number is provided).
4. Area is known for theft, so be vigilant.
5. Free breakfast
6. Complimentary ice water, coffee, and tea in lobby.
7. No persons under 18 allowed.

Wonderful staff. Beautiful and within walking distance to the wharf and the Boardwalk. Super clean Bed & Breakfast, with contemporary furnushings, oh so comfortable beds and pillows (which can make or break a vacation), in a great area and on the 3rd floor you can look out the window and see the water. This an historical home refurbished and the owners did an amazing job. It was also quiet, had a morning meal and has places to sit outside with fireplaces...as well as inside. I wouldn't change a thing. I never had to park on the street. Thanks for making my and my daughter's vacation so relaxing. And you Must Go to the "The Buttery" .... coffee, breakdast, pastries, sandwiches...incredible food!

Let's face it. Santa Cruz hotels, in general, are WAY overpriced for what you get. In fact, most places in town are downright dumpy! We always have a difficult time justifying the price that you have to pay to stay in Santa Cruz; it's almost better just to make a day trip of it from anywhere in the Bay Area. But.....it was my birthday. So we decided to stay for a night. I booked this place because it looked nice and was within walking distance of the beach and boardwalk and wharf. It turned out to be a nice experience. We arrived in town several hours before check-in, but they let us park our car in the lot. We were able to walk to the beach. (It's about 4 blocks.) The desk clerk was very friendly and full of great information about the hotel and the area. (The desk clerk is only there for limited hours.) Our room was upstairs. If you have mobility issues, there is no elevator, so book a ground floor room. The room looked out on the canal, and it was very quiet. The bed was comfortable. We couldn't quite figure out the ac/swampcooler. There was a hose that went out the window. We opened up windows to get a cross breeze, and it was fine. Our room was all one big open room with the spa tub/shower right in the room. The toilet was in its own small closet. The lights in the water closet/toilet had a sensor which would go on at the slightest movement. It was kind of annoying. Wifi service was pretty good. We didn't stay for breakfast, as we had to leave early in the morning. We'd probably stay here again, if we decided we wanted to spend several hundred dollars again.
