“Very nice place to stay in Santa Monica”
Reviewed 28 May 2012

I would highly reccomend this place: great location, friendly staff, huge lobby area with full bar and nice seating area outside overlooking the ocean - it's the best I've stayed in Santa Monica. Rooms are big enough, though you can be not completely happy with the back street view.

This was my second stay at the Loews in 3 months. The first stay was an enjoyable experience in a nice room. Sadly the second stay was not so good. The so called upgrade room in my opinion was a downgrade. The room was dark and dreary and overlooked a housing estate on a noisy road. Before my luggage arrived in the room I asked if I could change hotels and was advised that I would need to pay for an upgrade. They did not grasp that I wanted to downgrade. Unfortuantley no room was available so I was stuck where I was. The rooms are not very soundproofed and I was disturbed by children running up and down the corridors at night, a security guard on a walkie talkie that sounded like he was outside the room and a dust cart. For 3 nights out of 4 I didn't get a turn down service either.

The final straw was when the hotel started making charges to my credit card each night in the early hours of the morning. Fortunately my credit card company sends me a message for every charge. By the end of the 3rd night $1,200 had been charged to my card. The hotel response was there was a problem with their system. Whilst I did finally manage to get this resolved when I checked out there was then a charge of $45 for delivery of packages that I had sent to my room. This was the final straw and I told the hotel in no uncertain terms that I'm suprised they didn't charge me to sneeze.

That being said its a nice location and close to the beach.

Room Tip: Take rooms on the 8th floor overlooking the pool.

The ocean-facing rooms let you soak in the Pacific as well as the colors and action of the Santa Monica pier and everything else going on below (the muscled guys on the rings, the yoga experts on the grass, the cyclists and runners along the beach path.) you could watch the world from your balcony for hours. Request a room on one of the upper floors (5-8) The lobby is beautiful and also often buzzing with some special occasion. Great pool, terrific gym and breakfast in the restaurant was delicious. The concierge hexpertly elped us with a baby sitting request. Finally, the Loews is walking distance from the 3rd St Promenade. You can't find a better spot here.

there could not be a more beautful beach location. We had excellent service from the staff. handled everything well, including a 200-person business symposium and an electrical outage. The public spaces are beautiful, well-thought-out views of beach and everything bathed in light.

The rooms are very spacious with very nice finished. Not five-star, but probably 4-star.

Probably not for familes, more for couples and business.
I had fine service with the internet.

Stayed here for business. Overall very nice stay. Pretty nice room. Spacious bathroom, very comfortable beds.

Big, nice gym. Cool pool area and fire pits for a drink at night.

Easy to get to the beach to walk or run.

I didn't require much service, but all the service I had was great.

My only major complaint was the business center - where I paid $27 to print four black and white pages and send a FAX. They shouldn't subject their patrons to that.

Otherwise, a good stay and a great location.

Clueless front desk staff, crappy "modern" decor, and a rude call from security lodging a "noise complaint" a whole 3 minutes after arriving back to the hotel with 3 sleeping kids. AT 10:30!!! This place is a far cry from sophistication, and left this family with a horrible taste of L.A. in its mouth. Rip. Off.

Room Tip: avoid at all cost.

Very nice location on Ocean Avenue about a block from the Santa Monica Pier. The staff are all very well trained (except a bit peculiarly, the staff in the Ocean & Vine Restaurant all seemed to be a bit unfamiliar with how an upscale restaurant should operate !?), and the concierge desk is extremely helpful. I called in advance of my stay for some restaurant reservations and the concierge was able to get me in to the restaurant of my choice - I appreciated his effort. The front desk personnel are very quick and competent and friendly. And you can speak to a real person for a morning wake up call, I had almost thought those days were over! I had a room on the western side of the hotel facing the Pier and the beach looking north. Very pleasant way to wake up - ask for a room with in the 30 range ( 634, for example, or 736, etc). The room was excellent, comfortable, well appointed. The fitness center is large enough and very well equipped. The outdoor lounge areas are pleasant enough but not really inviting. It has a business feel to it - if you are looking for a resort environment, it seems a bit limited. Couldn't they have put in more than just a 4 ft deep lap pool???

Room Tip: There's little point staying here if you don't have a view of the beach - I would insist on...
