Great wedding venue

Review of Alisal Ranch
5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Mar 2, 2024
We stayed at Alisal Ranch because it was my daughter's wedding venue. We are generally not very interested in the western theme but we had a great time! The grounds are beautiful and the property is huge. They have spectacular views that reminded me of the rolling hills of Tuscany (think of cows and live oaks instead of houses and italian cypresses. The staff was very attentive and accommodating. The horseback riding activities seemed well executed and organized.

We absolutely love going to Alisal Ranch, and we've been doing it for 24 years now. Our children back then are now adults with children of their own, and it's a wonderful spot for couples, or a family gathering. The beauty of having our own table ready for us at breakfast and dinner without having to make reservations is one of the many highlights of this location. They also have wonderful golf, a large pool, tennis, hiking, horseback riding at all levels on beautiful scenic trails, a sand volleyball court, an activity room for kids, a petting farm, and wood-burning fireplaces in every room. The rate is steep, but well worth the cost for what you get. Breakfast, dinner and complimentary beverages, wines, beer and well drinks are included. It's a tradition my sister's family and my own hope to continue for many years.

Do not book in rainy season! It rained the entire time we were here and they have no indoor horse arena. I had no idea they had such a small horse program and so few activities. Some people would probably consider the food good but they use a lot of salt and cheese and the menu does not change except for the catch of the day. The catch of the day was lobster for one of our days and steak is on the menu every night, so for some people, they would consider it quite good.

I am so sorry that you did not have a good experience at Alisal. We do have a very robust "rainy day program"- offering: Charcuterie Board Making, Margaritas, Guacamole & Salsa making, Cookie Decorating, Cocktail Making, Spirit Tasting, Storytelling, making your own Fish bait, Barnyard arts and crafts to name a few. And I don't quite understand your comment about "small horse program"? We have over 110 horses in our herd with 50 trails to ride on. In addition, we offer private rides, picnic rides, distance rides, Corral Lessons and Horsemanship 101. While I appreciate your feedback on our menu- we do offer four specials per day. If I did not know any better, by what you have described- I would think you stayed at a different ranch. At any rate, we missed the mark with you and for that we deeply apologize.

Food was horrible. No concierge support to help plan activities.
Bought package to include multiple activities per day only to be told most of the activities were EXTRA charges. Ranch cancelled one of our activities and never attempted to substitute with something else. Very disappointing.

Room tip: Do NOT book package deal. Book activities as individual events. Pastry chef was great. Dinner was horrible every night.

This is so disappointing to here. We do have a concierge team. Most of our activities are included in packages- and we are always very clear in our confirmation letters to guests about terms. Our guests rave about our food. I am really so very sorry- as none of what you are describing sounds like Alisal. Please feel free to reach out to me personally to discuss further.

Had the most fantastic birthday at Alisal! Started with a great bbq the night before, then a hayride to a pancake breakfast in the gorgeous hills, canoeing on the lake, biking, swimming and a fantastic dinner. What a great experience! Thanks to everyone at Alisal Ranch for a memorable and wonderful time!

Place is a 10 all day. Food is a 10- Wear a jacket or they may give you one to wear. Ribeye and Salmon are melt in your mouth orgasm. Bartenders are a 10 drinks are so goooood- happy hour with live guitar will make you smile til your face hurts. Grounds are picture perfect. Features of the lake, the horses, the farm animals, the grassy areas to play wiht your family is just so peaceful. Kids stuff is just right- some crafts and games. The staff at the front desk are beyond kind. Brooks Garcia specifically in sales is the shining star at this property. I am not the type to review a property but I found after his exceptional hospitality I had to submit something to show my appreciation. Go - you wont regret it- you will only want rebook...

Room tip: Enjoy it all there is so much to do. Golf, fish. horses, crafts, pool , food....
